NFL Free Agent Signings: Todd Haley and Steve Breaston Reunite in Kansas City
According to Sports Illustratedās Jim Trotter, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston to a five-year contract with $9.5 million in guaranteed money.
Breaston played in Arizona and worked with Todd Haley for two seasons while Haley was the offensive coordinator.
This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Jonathan Baldwin in the first round of the draft and now have brought in Breaston to help the Chiefs become a three-dimensional offense.
The Chiefs were ranked 30th in the league in passing as Matt Cassel only had one reliable receiver in Dwayne Bowe. Cassel will now have better talent around him this season.
It might be safe to say that Bowe wonāt catch 15 touchdowns this season, but for a good reason. Breaston and Baldwin will both help Bowe carry this football team in the passing game. The Chiefs also have Tony Moeaki coming off of a great rookie season as he finished second among all receivers on the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
The Arizona Cardinals finished 31st in the league in passing and struggled to find consistency as three different quarterbacks started for the Cardinals in 2010. Despite the woes, Breaston managed to finish second on the Cardinals in receptions and receiving yards behind Larry Fitzgerald.
The past couple of seasons, the Chiefs have brought in players such as Devard Darling, Mark Bradley and Bobby Wade to help compliment Bowe. Unfortunately, the Chiefs receiving core remained thin and hope Breaston can help turn things around in Kansas City.
Breaston finished the 2010 season with 47 catches for 718 yards and one touchdown. He has tallied at least 700 receiving yards every year since 2008.
