Donovan McNabb Headed to Minnesota Vikings?: What It Would Mean
Breaking news: The Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins have agreed in principle to a trade sending QB Donovan McNabb to Minnesota.
The deal is contingent upon McNabb taking a significant pay cut, but according to Jay Glazer, "FOXSports.com has learned the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to acquire McNabb in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft and possibly a conditional 2013 draft pick."
This offseason has been extremely tough to follow, but if you want all of the day's top stories (before the McNabb trade) on one page, I condense them for you here.
Anyway, it appears McNabb will now be a Viking, which means a few things for the upcoming offseason.
McNabb Will Have To Restructure His Contract
1 of 6The Minnesota Vikings have stated that they want no part of McNabb's huge deal and that he will have to rework his contract.
McNabb signed an enormous deal with the Redskins but will have to restructure the contract for the sake of leaving Washington.
Minnesota won't suffer too much from this cap hit, as it's expected that McNabb won't get too big of a deal.
Christian Ponder Won't Be the Starter
2 of 6Donovan McNabb has clearly been brought in to lead this group of veteran stars to a Super Bowl title.
The Viking brass felt that the team couldn't be Christian Ponder's yet, and now the young passer gets to sit and watch Donovan McNabb run the offense before Ponder takes over.
This is a true win-win situation as Ponder won't be thrown to the dogs while the Vikings have a legitimate chance at winning football games.
It's Either Kevin Kolb or Marc Bulger in Arizona
3 of 6There was some speculation that Donovan McNabb could be the starter in Arizona, but with the recent news, that speculation is no more.
Look for the quarterback hunt in Arizona to come down to two names: Kevin Kolb and Marc Bulger.
Early bets are on Kolb, but Bulger is a legitimate dark horse in the race.
The Minnesota Vikings Are a Playoff Team
4 of 6Donovan McNabb has throws left in him and could certainly lead this talent-laden roster to the Super Bowl if he plays like he has shown he can.
McNabb could blossom into a big-time passer (much like Brett Favre did) in Minnesota as he carries out the end of his career.
The veteran passer knows how to run Minnesota's offense, so look for the Vikings to make a run this upcoming season.
Sidney Rice Will Re-Sign with Minnesota
5 of 6This is more of a bold prediction, but I feel like all the pieces being in place will compel Sidney Rice to re-sign with the Vikings.
Rice knows what it's like to have a veteran quarterback throwing him the ball and the young pass-catcher could return to the Purple and Gold for a few more years if he gets a good vibe.
Getting McNabb unlocks a lot of pieces to the Viking offseason puzzle.
