San Francisco Giants Video: Watch Misfits Meet Obama at White House

In what has become a time-honored tradition, the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants paid a visit to the White House on Monday. It's the final stop on the long and winding championship tour for the Giants, who are in a good position to get back to the postseason once again.

The most anticipated moment of the ceremony, at least for me, was hearing what President Barack Obama, an avid sports fan, was going to say about Brian Wilson, the eccentric closer for the Giants.

"I do fear (the beard)," President Obama said. "I do think Brian you should know that Michelle (Obama) was very relieved that the press was going to be talking about what somebody else wears here in the White House..."

It wasn't the President's best line, but he did have fun with Wilson and the rest of the team in his speech.

The President's best line came at the end when speaking about the Giants and wishing them well the remainder of the season.

"So, that's what this team is all about, characters with character," said President Obama. "And, so once again, I want to congratulate this team, and wish them all the best of luck in the season, unless the White Sox are in the World Series, which right now is not a sure thing."

It was a pretty standard Presidential sports address. President Obama at least knows the game and understands what he is talking about, unlike some President's that we have seen in the past who have no idea who or what they are talking about when they talk about sports.

There were some of those Presidential pity laughs, but you are going to get that with any speech that a person in power makes.

I will say that I was a little disappointed that Brian Wilson didn't actually get the chance to speak on the microphone, because he is one of the more charismatic players in baseball and would have delivered at least one noteworthy line.

Regardless, this is a great moment for the San Francisco Giants organization, the players, the front office and the fans. Now, they just have to find a little offensive firepower if they hope to make a return trip next year.
