The 2009 New York Yankees hoisting the World Series trophy

The New York Yankees are the greatest baseball franchise we will ever see. And I'm not saying that because I love the Yankees. They win the most. They have the best players. They have the most history.

But to some fans, 27 World Series titles mean absolutely nothing. Sure it's the most championships a team has ever won in any professional sport, but there are three reasons why the success the New York Yankees have had is not enough.

The Yankees Have Existed Since 1901

OK, this one is gonna get people annoyed. But the Yankees have been around since 1901. That means that the Yankees did not win a World Series Championship 82 out of 110 years of existence.

Now people are going to say that the Yankees are the greatest team in baseball. But they did not win a championship 75 percent of the time. While they have a much better win percentage in the regular season, the fact is the have only won it all 25 percent of the time.

This might be a greedy statement, but that doesn't sound like a dominant team. It's just the team that won more than others.

The Yankees Have 40 American League Pennants

The Yankees have 40 American League Pennants, which means they've made it to the World Series 40 times. OK, so 27-13 in the World Series is a good record. But 13 World Series losses doesn't make you dominant.

That mean's the Yankees were the second best team for 13 years.

It also means the Yankees weren't even the second best 70 times.

They have four wild card appearances. And they have 16 American League East Pennants. They have 49 playoff appearances, which means they missed the playoffs a little bit more than 50 percent of the time.

The Yankees are supposed to be the No. 1 team ever. Apparently that wasn't the case for a lot of years.

The Yankees-Red Sox Rivalry

Down three games to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship game, the Boston Red Sox were done for. Or at least that's what all of us Yankee fans thought.

But the Red Sox came back and won four games in a row to knock off the Yankees.

It left a bad taste in the Yankees organization's mouth. Not only did the Yankees blow a chance to get to another World Series after losing the year before to the Florida Marlins, but they lost to the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees have a .543 win percentage against the Red Sox in the regular season. That's not good enough.

The Yankees are 11-8 in the postseason against the Red Sox. Not good enough either.

These stats give the Yanks a winning record against the Red Sox, but they're not dominating numbers.
