MLB Trade Deadline: 4 Chicago Cubs Who Will Be Traded
With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Chicago Cubs are mulling over their options.
Despite general manager Jim Hendry's claim that a fire sale is not in the works, it may happen at some point and this season's trading deadline is only the beginning.
The team will not be getting much in return for any trade it makes, but trades could still relieve some of the financial burdens the franchise currently faces.
Which players will be traded on or before July 31?
Find out as we count down four Chicago Cubs who will be dealt by the 2011 trading deadline.
4. Sean Marshall
1 of 4Sean Marshall has been an effective setup man for the Chicago Cubs since his Major League debut in 2006.
This season has been one of Sean Marshall's best, as he has a 2.70 earned run average in 43 innings of work.
At only 28 years of age, Sean Marshall still has many productive seasons ahead of him.
And that's not the only appealing aspect about Sean Marshall.ย He has also been a very effective spot starter in past seasons.
That means teams looking at Sean Marshall may be getting a guy who can be developed into a full-time starter.
3. Carlos Marmol
2 of 4Carlos Marmol is one of the game's best closers, at least when he chooses to be.
The only risk other teams would be taking with Carlos Marmol is that he is a very streaky player.
When he's hot, he's hot. When he's cold, he's cold.
If prospective teams can work to correct his flaws, they will have rock-solid closer.
The likelihood of a trade of Carlos Marmol has taken a bit of blow in recent days as manager Mike Quade has relieved him of his closer duties indefinitely due to his recent struggles.
2. Carlos Zambrano
3 of 4Carlos Zambrano, otherwise known as "Big Z," has been one of the most reliable starters in the Chicago Cubs' rotation since 2003.
At this point in the season, Carlos Zambrano is 6-5 with a 4.78 earned run average. These statistics are far below his own standards.
In his career, Carlos Zambrano is 122-79 with a 3.58 earned run average.
He has expressed his desire to play in Chicago, but he is also willing to waive his no-trade clause.
The New York Yankees are a very likely destination for Carlos Zambrano as they are looking for starting pitching.
1. Aramis Ramirez
4 of 4Aramis Ramirez has had one of the hottest bats in baseball over the last few weeks, and this has greatly improved his trade value.
A solid third baseman, many teams are sure to come calling about acquiring his services.
Ramirez's recent hot streak has also lifted his batting average to .300.
He has also racked up 16 home runs and driven in 56.
Teams looking for a clutch hitter down the stretch will find one in Aramis Ramirez.
