Premier League Transfer Gossip: Sneijder, Aguero, Nani, Moutinho, Downing
Another week of rampant transfers speculation is upon us, and as usual, the Premier League is offering up plenty to chew on this Monday morning.
Let's start with Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder, who is once again being linked to a move to Manchester United.
The Dutch international has been a long-term target for the Premier League champions, and Inter are now saying the deal could happen—providing United send Portuguese winger Nani in opposite direction.
Across town at Manchester City, the name Sergio Aguero is once again in the gossip columns.
The 23-year-old Argentine striker could apparently be in a blue shirt next season for the princely sum of £45 million.
City's Craig Bellamy could be sold to help fund the transaction. The fiery Welshman, who has fallen out with City manager Roberto Mancini, is reportedly a target for Aston Villa.
The only problem for potential Bellamy suitors is that the 31-year-old is not prepared to take a cut in wages. He currently pulls in £80,000/week at Eastlands and would rather sit in the reserves than settle for less elsewhere.
Villa's interest in Bellamy is linked to continued speculation suggesting Stewart Downing will be leaving the club this summer. Villa have already turned down a £15 million bid from Liverpool, and it's yet to be seen if they'll go higher.
Arsenal have also been linked to the England winger, but Aston Villa have denied claims that the Gunners tabled an £18 million bid.
If Downing eventually moves to Anfield, they'll be even more weight behind the rumor that Joe Cole could be on his way out.
The England midfielder is being linked to German club Hamburg today, with the arrival of Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam at Liverpool said to be the catalyst for a possible escape.
Down south now, for news that Chelsea are reportedly in the market for Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho.
After Michael Essien suffered an injury in preseason training, Chelsea have made finding a world-class midfielder a priority. Luka Modric remains their No. 1 target, but if they can't get him the £35-million rated Moutinho is next on the list.
Finally, back to Liverpool for the rumor that they're keen on Everton fullback Leighton Baines. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish apparently sees Baines as the ideal man to provide some defensive stability.
