Dallas Cowboys: 5 Most Probable Future Hall of Famers Currently on Roster

Jason HenryJun 4, 2018

The 2011 Dallas Cowboys will be a team loaded with talent. There’s Dez Bryant and Miles Austin at wide receiver, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray at running back, Tony Romo playing quarterback, Jason Witten at tight end, and the list just goes on.

With all of that talent it’s almost impossible not to have at least one guy make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Historically, Dallas has had some issues getting guys into the hall. Bob “Bullet” Hayes, Michael Irvin and Ed “Too Tall” Jones are just a few who either struggled to get there or have yet to make it.

While these guys have had their struggles with the Hall, let’s take a look at five current Cowboys player who may make the hall one day.

DeMarcus Ware, LB

1 of 5

One of Ware’s defining seasons was 2009. In Week 14 of the 2009 season the ‘Boys were up against the San Diego Chargers in a game the Cowboys needed to improve their chances of making the playoffs.

In the third quarter of that game Ware went down with a neck injury and had to be carted off of the field. The Cowboys were still in the game at that point, but once Ware was removed from the game, the air was sucked from the stadium and from the team, and Dallas ended up losing the game.

But Ware returned the very next week when the Cowboys traveled to New Orleans to play the Saints and logged two sacks on Saints quarterback Drew Brees, one that ended the game.

I take you on a journey around Robin Hood’s barn to give a glimpse of the amount of toughness in Ware. For his career he has 80 sacks, 334 tackles and has played in every single game of his six year career.

If Ware decided to retire today, he would tie for 51st in career sacks. He only needs six sacks to move into the top 40, and my man still has at least five or six good years left in him.

At his current pace Ware is a virtual lock for the Hall of Fame, and he’s the type of player that people want to see make it to the Hall.

Tony Romo, QB

2 of 5

Before Romo’s place on this list is dismissed with eye rolling and teeth sucking, let's just take a look at Tony’s numbers.

He’s only started four-and-a-half seasons as quarterback for the Cowboys, and Romo has already thrown 118 touchdown passes, which places him 101st on this list of career passing touchdown leaders.

Romo has over 16,000 passing yards and as of right now he’s the fourth best quarterback of all time in terms of quarterback rating.

Tony’s durability will need to improve but if his numbers keep growing, and he wins a couple of Super Bowls it will be tough to keep him away from Canton.

Jason Witten, TE

3 of 5

Another tough guy who’s headed for Canton Witten has almost 7,000 receiving yards, which is third best amongst active tight ends.

Witten once kept a play going after he lost his helmet and routinely plays injured. He’s missed one game in his distinguished career and that was during his rookie season.

Witten had nine touchdowns and over 1,000 yards in 2010, a season logged with turmoil for the Cowboys.

If Romo gets in trouble and needs a bailout Witten is always there. The Cowboys need a first down? Witten is on the job.

Witten’s numbers would probably be a little higher, but he’s routinely asked to stay on the line as an extra blocker. He blocks well, catches even better and is one hell of a teammate from what I hear.

There are a lot of “ifs” involved when speaking on the potential of a person’s career, but Jason has a great chance of having his likeness created in a bronze bust.

Matt McBriar, P

4 of 5

When it comes to punters Ray Guy is the one who sets the bar. He was enshrined in 2008 after years of debate as to if he should even make it and maybe McBriar will follow in his footsteps.

McBriar averages almost 48 yards per punt, six yards more than Guy. He only has 436 punts, and Guy booted the pigskin over 1,000 times so McBriar has a long way to go.

But McBriar is efficient, accurate and has a rifle for a leg. Guy’s longest punt was 74 yards, and so far, McBriar's  lengthiest pooch is 10 yards less than Guy’s.

By no means am I making the assertion that McBriar is the next Ray Guy but he has the talent may have the longevity to make it past Guy in terms of numbers.

Andre Gurode, C

5 of 5

According to a story featured on yardbarker.com Gurode was originally drafted as a guard, and he was sliding toward being cut. Former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells moved him to center, and that’s when the magic started to happen for Gurode.

The jury is still out on Doug Free, but Gurode is the Cowboys most stable offensive lineman. Kyle Kosier is solid but can be skittish, Marc Colombo’s days in Dallas may be over, and Leonard Davis was benched at one point last season.

Gurode is a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro selection so if the Cowboys are able to win a Super Bowl or two and Gurode is the man handling the duties at center, I believe his chances are pretty high of making it to Canton.
