NFL Free Agency: 6 Free Agents Nobody Wants
When the NFL lockout finally ends and free agency begins, it is guaranteed to be a frenzied free-for-all as teams attempt to fill voids in a short amount of time.
Unfortunately, even with a shortened free agency period, some players will be wanted by no team.
Some of these players no longer have what it takes to perform consistently in the NFL; others might be considered toxic to a team's chemistry.
One or two might just be bad players.
Whatever the reason, here are six free agents that nobody wants.
Brett Favre, QB
1 of 6Dan Graziano of ESPN spoke of the rumor that Favre might come back to the NFL next season. Will Favre ever be able to hang up the old football cleats?
Even if Favre does decide to return, are there any teams out there stupid enough to take a chance on him?
I absolutely don't see Favre coming back for another season just to be a second stringer.
He has always wanted to be the focal point of a team, but last season proved that the days of Favre's leading a team are over.
Washington, Arizona, and Miami seem like possible teams that might give Favre one last chance.
However, even the management of those teams should be smart enough to know when to yell "NO!!!!" to a legend.
Roy Williams, S
2 of 6There was once a time when many considered Roy Williams to be the next great safety. He was never great in coverage, but he could sure lay a hit on a player.
Since Williams had his last Pro Bowl season in 2007, things have been going downhill. His production has dropped as he seems a little slower and a little less instinctive than he previously was.
The main reason that nobody wants Williams are his injuries. He has spent the past three seasons dealing with various ailments and has only played in 19 games.
With his injuries and lack of ability, I don't see any teams making a move at Williams in free agency.
Alex Barron, OT
3 of 6Alex Barron had a rough year in Dallas last season. In fact, his entire season started off poorly after a holding penalty called on him brought back a game-winning touchdown.
Barron often seemed overmatched last year. He wasn't fast enough to keep up with speed rushers, and he wasn't strong enough to not get overpowered.
His lack of ability and lack of concentration are major question marks.
Dallas was hoping that Alex Barron would help their offensive line when they got him from St. Louis. That certainly didn't happen and no other team will take a chance on him again this offseason.
Donte Stallworth, WR
4 of 6After being suspended for the entire 2009 season, Donte Stallworth was hoping to make a comeback to the league. He was even picked up by the Baltimore Ravens before the 2010 season.
Unfortunately, Stallworth broke his foot in the preseason and missed a chunk of the regular season.
What makes matters even worse for Stallworth is that he was completely ineffective for Baltimore when he did return—he had just two receptions for 82 yards in eight games.
That type of production impresses no one.
It appears as if his year off from the NFL really damaged his ability, and teams will stay away from the troubled and fading Stallworth.
Randy Moss, WR
5 of 6After Randy Moss played for three separate teams last year and benefited neither of them, I don't see any team taking a chance on him.
Neither New England, Minnesota, nor Tennessee could get Moss to attempt to play at an elite level. That is a shame because it appears as though if Moss tried, he could still be a valuable weapon to a number of teams.
However, the days of Moss trying seem to be over after 13 seasons in the NFL—he had just 28 receptions and 393 yards during the 2010 season.
Even teams that are in desperate need of receiver help—such as Cleveland and St. Louis—will look everywhere else before they look at Moss as an option.
Terrell Owens, WR
6 of 6The Terrell Owens/Chad Ochocinco trial season in Cincinnati was rather disappointing. Surprisingly, Owens actually had a decent year, nearly surpassing 1,000 receiving yards.
But over the past few months—just like every other offseason in recent memory—Owens has been doing damage off the field.
Owens recently had surgery on a torn ACL, which is a rather serious procedure. Even though he and his agent claim that he will be ready to go when the 2011 season begins, I just don't see it happening.
Teams have been willing to take chances on Owens despite his numerous antics, but this year will be different.
