2011 MLB All-Star Game: 5 Changes That Need To Be Made to the AL Roster

Josh SchochJun 7, 2018

With the 2011 All-Star Game set to take place on Tuesday night, we have a pretty good idea of how the American League roster will look. With that being said, there are a few changes that need to be made for this to be the best possible roster.

Fans have the option to vote for All-Stars, and that can lead to problems.

Some fans don't vote for the best player available. They will instead vote for players on their favorite teams, or they will vote based off of name.

To become a true All-Star lineup, the American League would have to make these five changes.

Replace David Price

1 of 5

David Price is a starting pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. Price has been elected to his second All-Star Game.

Price is having a solid season, but he was roughed up earlier today by the New York Yankees.

Price has an ERA of 3.70 this season and a WHIP of 1.09. He is 8-7, but he has the highest ERA of any pitcher in the All-Star Game this year.

The American League has some very good options for pitchers, but Price is not one of the best. If the AL wants to have a true All-Star roster, then they need to replace Price.

Add C.C. Sabathia

2 of 5

C.C. Sabathia is a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees. Sabathia is one of the best in baseball, yet he was not selected for the All-Star Game.

Sabathia is 12-4 with an ERA of 2.90 this season. Sabathia has been lights-out this year, and he has the second best FIP in the American League.

Sabathia has been stellar, and he is one of the biggest snubs from the All-Star Game this season.

Add Jhonny Peralta

3 of 5

Jhonny Peralta is a shortstop for the Detroit Tigers. Peralta has been hitting incredibly well, and he is one of the best shortstops in baseball, let alone the American League. Unfortunately, Peralta was not elected to the All-Star Game.

Peralta is batting .313 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI this season. He has been red-hot this season, and he is more than deserving of an All-Star appearance.

If the American League wants to have the best players in the league on their team, then Jhonny Peralta needs to be added to the roster.

Add Michael Pineda

4 of 5

Michael Pineda is a starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the best pitchers in the league this season.

Pineda has been excellent this season, going 8-5. He has an ERA of 2.58 with a WHIP of 1.01 this season.

Pineda has shut down opponents all season long, and he should have been granted his first of many appearances in the All-Star Game this season.

Replace C.J. Wilson

5 of 5

C.J. Wilson has been selected to pitch in the All-Star Game this year. Wilson is a starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers.

Wilson has put up pretty good numbers: 9-3, 3.20 ERA, 1.20 WHIP. He has not, however, been good enough to be an All-Star.

Wilson was selected by AL manager Ron Washington. Washington is also manager of the Rangers, and it seems that he was biased when he made this decision.

It's an unwritten rule that the manager of an All-Star team does not select one of their own players to fill any gaps, but Washington broke it.

Wilson is not All-Star material, and he should not be on the roster.
