Roger Clemens' Colleagues Could Testify Against Him at Trial
With the next "trial of the century" upon us, Roger Clemens’ chances of getting away scot-free have taken another hit.
According to Bloomberg Businessweek, names such as Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and Jorge Posada are some of the name mentioned as potential witnesses against, arguably, baseball’s greatest pitcher.
Regardless of what happens, Clemens is already guilty in the minds of fans everywhere. I suppose, at this point, it's more entertainment value than anything else.
Clemens is facing “one count of obstructing a congressional investigation, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury in connection with a congressional probe of the use of performance-enhancing drugs by ballplayers.” He could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine.
It is highly unlikely that 30 years in prison will be the outcome. As we all witnessed during the Barry Bonds case, of all the charges against him, he was convicted on one count of obstruction of justice.
Will he receive 10 years in prison? Not a chance, but his legacy, if there is one left, is completely destroyed.
People talk about how this is a waste of taxpayer’s money. That may be correct, but when it comes down to it, reputation, history and legacy is huge in the game. Even though the accused is/could seemingly be let off of all charges, this whole process has ruined how the fans see them, and that could be the worst conviction of them all.
