LeSean McCoy and 9 Worst Omissions from NFL Network Top 100

Joe Rapolla Jr.Jun 7, 2018

The NFL Network released last week their list of the 100 best players in the NFL for the 2011 season. To clarify, this list is created on the basis ofĀ currentĀ potential and ability.Ā

The players selected should be the ones that will have the greatest impact and be of the utmost importance for their respective teams in the 2011 NFL season.Ā

The NFL Network did an OK job, but 100 is a big number, and understandably, they made a few mistakes in everyone's different opinion. In my opinion, here are 11 players that were snubbed from a spot on the list.Ā

10. Bart Scott, LB

1 of 10

Bart Scott fell off a bit last season in the amount of tackles he recorded but was still a dominant defensive force.Ā

Scott is one of the most intense and intimidating linebackers in the game, and his contribution to his team on the field makes him worthy of a spot on the list.Ā

(I had to put up the clip of Scott's rant).

9. Vincent Jackson, WR

2 of 10

Despite all of his contractual issues, Vincent Jackson is still one of the most lethal wide receivers in football.Ā

At 6'5" and 240 pounds, Jackson has ridiculous size that is sure to be dominating over most defensive backs. He also has great hands and a keenness for making diving catches.Ā

Wherever Jackson plays this year, he will put up stellar numbers, and should easily be on the top 100 list.Ā

8. Chris Clemons, DE

3 of 10

Chris Clemons has had far from the most dominating career in the NFL, yet the seven year veteran recorded his best season ever last year, racking up 11 sacks with the Seattle Seahawks.Ā

He will have to prove that last season wasn't just a fluke, but given his potential, experience, and upswing, I would put Clemons near the bottom of this list.

7. Kyle Orton, QB

4 of 10

Kyle Orton may be the most underrated quarterback in football. When he was traded to the Denver Broncos for Jay Cutler, everyone thought Denver was crazy for allowing that switch to happen.Ā

In two seasons, though, Orton has passed for over 3,600 yards both years and has a passer rating in both seasons of just under 90.Ā

Denver was terrible last season, but it was not Orton's doing whatsoever. He should be on this list, especially over Donovan McNabb, who was listed at 100.Ā

6. Charles Johnson, DE

5 of 10

2010 was only Charles Johnson's first big season, yet the three-year-vet stepped up when the Carolina Panthers needed him most: following the departure of Julius "Freak of Nature" Peppers.Ā

Johnson obviously saw the void on the field and the potential to shine and played dominating football. He racked up 11.5 sacks last year.Ā

This shows that Johnson is a leader who can handle pressure, and he will do big things. He is one of the top 100 players in the league.Ā

5. Ryan Clady, OT

6 of 10

I was really surprised by Ryan Clady's absence on the list.Ā

Since being drafted, Clady has been one of the most dominating and imposing offensive tackles in the game. He has played all 48 games in his three NFL seasons.Ā

Lineman only improve with age too, so Clady has quite an amount of time in front of him to improve his game and continue to make holes for Denver Broncos playmakers.

He should easily be included on the list.Ā

4. Johnathan Joseph, CB

7 of 10

Johnathan Joseph has been dominating ever since being drafted in 2006, yet he for some reason never gets too much attention. I really don't know why.Ā

It probably doesn't help that he plays for the Cincinnati Bengals, who are coming off a terrible year and are one of the most hot-and-cold teams in football. He also shares a locker room with Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, who hog the camera as much as anyone.Ā

Nonetheless, Joseph should be included on this list. He has played five years of solid football. Although he has never had a season as statistically dominating as say Nnamdi Asomugha or Darelle Revis, his consistency and durability should be commended and recognized.Ā

3. Antonio Cromartie, CB

8 of 10

Another guy I was real shocked about, Cromartie's absence from the list makes no sense.Ā

He has been possibly the best cornerback of the last five years with the exception of Nnamdi Asomugha, Champ Bailey, and fellow New York Jet Darrelle Revis.Ā

Sure, he's annoying, talkative, and difficult, yet his 18 interceptions and 207 tackles in five seasons should easily put him on the list.Ā

2. Osi Umenyiora, DE

9 of 10

This was a major mistake on the part of the NFL Network team. Osi Umenyiora has 60 sacks in seven seasons!Ā

There is no reason I can think of for his exclusion. Umenyiora is one of the best defensive ends in the game. He should be in the among the list's top 30.Ā

1. LeSean McCoy, RB

10 of 10

I guess it's tough to stand out when your quarterback is Michael Vick and your team's number one wide receiver is DeSean Jackson, yet LeSean McCoy was snubbed big time out of a spot on the top 100 list.Ā

To start off, McCoy screams versatility. He ran for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns last season while also racking up nearly 600 yards and two touchdowns receiving. He is a vital piece in the Philadelphia Eagles offense.Ā

Next, McCoy has amazing speed, and his versatility allows him to be used as a very effective decoy; when McCoy is running out of the backfield, there is a VERY real chance that he is being thrown the ball, and defenses have to take this seriously.Ā

McCoy is quickly becoming one of the best hybrid players in the game, and should have, without question, been included on this list.Ā
