Arizona Cardinals: Kurt Warner and the Current Quarterback Situation

Daniel BrommerJun 1, 2018

Kurt Warner worked wonders for the Arizona Cardinals. He brought them to their only Super Bowl and almost lead them to a victory. He took them to the playoffs in consecutive years, something the Cardinals haven't experienced in some time and then at the end of the 2009 season, he retired.

There isn't exactly a rumor out there that Warner is planning a return, there isn't even speculation, but do Arizona Cardinal fans want him back? The answer is: without a doubt.

If Warner would have stuck around for the 2010 season, it's a guarantee that he would have played better than the likes of Derek Anderson, Max Hall and John Skelton.

Skelton does have plenty of potential and promise, but can he have the same impact that Warner had? That's quite a tall task to ask of a young quarterback, but after three years of not being at the bottom of the wishing well, the Cardinals expected better things in 2010 and will again be expecting more in 2011.

Warner's 2009 season wasn't his best, but he was still very productive. He threw for 3,753 yards with 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Those numbers still blow out the numbers posted by all three of the Cardinals quarterbacks combined in 2010.

If Warner were to come out of retirement and play in 2011, it would do nothing but benefit Skelton in his progression as an NFL quarterback. He didn't really have a veteran to learn from last year and Warner's personality and his track record would help Skelton out dramatically.

Warner would also provide the offense with a quarterback who knows the offense up and down and his experience alone would be enough to make this offense high powered again.

There is practically no chance that Warner will return, but if he would decide to even at the last minute, Arizona fans would welcome him back with open arms.
