NFL Bad Boys: 10 Players Most Likely to Be Fined in 2011
The 2011-2012 NFL Season is fast approaching—well, we all hope it's coming soon.
While the season itself isn't quite set in stone, we can still look ahead to see who could be causing trouble this year.
These guys range from veteran bad boys to new players who already came into the draft with character issues.
Whether the charges are a result of something on or off the field, in person or online, these are 10 guys who will probably be causing a stir ... whenever the season gets going.
Ben Roethlisberger is well known for both his impressive resume on the field and issues outside the stadium.
Big Ben has dealt with two separate sexual assault allegations, as well as a six-game suspension at the beginning of the 2010 season.
Roethlisberger has made a name for himself, and it's not exactly 100 percent positive. Expect to see some trouble from this guy sooner rather than later.
Channing Crowder is not known for his quick thinking or deep ideas.
On the contrary, he's been known to say whatever comes to his mind. He's flown off the handle before when he's not happy.
There's a good chance Crowder will say something he'll have to pay for—both figuratively and literally—sometime this season.
Chad Johnson, or Chad Ochocinco, has made waves since he entered the NFL.
He was fined after putting "Ocho Cinco" over his "C. Johnson" jersey in 2006. Last season he had to pay up after his in-game tweets during the preseason, and then for his gold cleats a few months later.
It's only a matter of time before his next escapade.
To look at James Harrison's physicality, look no further than ESPN. Jeffri Chadiha declares Harrison the best tough guy in the league.
Last season Harrison was fined $125,000 for four different shots during the year.
He's not a particularly dirty player, but his physical form of play is not going to end soon, so he'll probably be paying a few more fines next season.
Hines Ward has been fined numerous times for his roughness on the field, and he's been twice named the NFL's dirtiest player in a Sports Illustrated poll, voted on by the players.
There will be some more issues regarding Ward this season. I don't see him changing his game any time soon.
Dez Bryant was escorted from a mall after an expletive-laden rant. His issue? Being asked to pull his sagging pants up.
While he wasn't arrested or charged with anything, doesn't that type of issue suggest some sort of underlying character issue? If you're going to cause a scene about pulling up your pants, there's a good chance you'll cause another scene about another mundane issue soon enough.
I see Bryant having some problems this season.
Plaxico Burress is attempting a comeback after two years in jail on a gun possession charge.
Expect him to get into some trouble this year.
I just hope his trouble doesn't include any more firearms.
Welcome to the NFL, Jimmy Smith.
Several, if not many, scouts question his character, as he's had multiple alcohol arrests and positive drug tests.
He tends to be a follower, and that could be harmful to him as he tries to make a name for himself at the professional level.
Jonathan Baldwin is another new guy with some character concerns already.
In 2009, he was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.
If that continues into his professional career, there's a good possibility he's going to have some issues.
