Last night Vernon Davis tweeted about the 49er minicamp that starts on Monday.
A 49er minicamp run by Alex Smith.
Davis via Twitter, "I got to get some rest so I can get ready for mini camp with my favorite guy Alex Smith. Wait til he see my routes!!"
It appears Alex Smith is putting his money where his mouth is so far.
Two days ago, Alex spoke with Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News and Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Q: "Do you think this is going to establish you as a leader?"
Smith: "Maybe so. I’ve worked hard. I’ve got a playbook. I’ve had it for a while. I’ve worked extremely hard getting into it, immersing myself into it. And I really think that’s, as far as the quarterback, the most important thing. And now I really feel I have a decent grasp of it. Enough to really be helpful to these guys."
"We’re going to get everybody together and I’m really, as much as I’ve learned about it, going to give it to them." said Smith to Kawakami.
On May 19th Davis was tweeting Kaepernick about planning some practice time between the two of them.
It seems a shift in the mind of Vernon has begun to take place. Maybe even in the minds of some of the fans. A shift from, "we got to get someone new in here", to "this could be the year Alex steps it up."
I don't know what is in this Kool-Aid. I don't know how Alex continues to get us to drink it, but year after year we do.
I thought it was a wrap after last season. Apparently Alex did too. But he is back. In a major way.
Deja vu all over again?
