How Rashard Mendenhall Has Earned His Spot as Football's Newest Villain

Andrew DunnMay 3, 2011

For those of you that haven't heard, Rashard Mendenhall has come out and been very vocal about his disagreement with people rejoicing in the death of Osama bin Laden.

If I were to sum up this article in just a few words: You're on your own Mendenhall.

I don't attempt to be a biased writer by any stretch of the imagination, but Mendenhall's mouth and tweets are simply disrespectful.

It all started a few months ago when he agree with Adrian Peterson's statements about the NFL being "modern-day slavery."

Oh, please Rashard, tell us how hard your multi-million dollar lifestyle is. Better yet, let's bring back some of those slaves that were whipped and beaten every single day, and then had to do manual labor for 20 hours a day.

This all without any pay and poor living conditions. So yes, please explain to me how the luxurious lifestyle of a whiny football player compares in any way with slavery.

Let me tell you now: No one has sympathy for any of you. Put your pads and cleats on, shut your mouth and play the game like every other athlete does and do it for the love of the game.

Getting back to his tweets about recent events, one in particular got me particularly upset. A recent one referencing the horrific September 11 attacks read, "We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."

Are you kidding me? Have you read any articles or web sites or any bit of news since then? It wasn't just the planes, Rashard, go back to middle school and learn that the gas that leaked from the planes caused explosion after explosion, melting the foundation and causing the towers to crumble.

Who do you think you are to question this country's ignorance on one of the darkest days in its history? That is some of the most disrespectful garbage I've ever heard anyone say, and I've lived through the T.O. and Ochocinco show.

And finally, we cap off the conversation with him calling out people on rejoicing bin Laden's death. Admittedly, he's not the only one to to be a little more "compassionate" about the situation.

If he's religious, doesn't believe in celebrating his death, then that's fine with me, but to say we don't know his side of the story? Please, Rashard, tell all of us what his side may have been that would justify why he sent his people to do to the twin towers and the Pentagon what they did.

I'm very interested to hear, but wait: We never will, because Osama is dead! D-E-A-D! And allow me to rejoice even more.

Congratulations to you Rashard Mendenhall: Not only have you angered the majority of this country with your initial remarks, but you've now become possibly the most hated and classless man that has ever walked onto a football field.

I can only speak for myself, but any respect I previously had for you is not only gone, it can never come back. You walk with your head high knowing you disrespected this country and the soldiers that represent it.

As for me, excellent job to our brave men and women! We are all damn proud to be an American!
