They wanted a dynamic speedster. A tremendous athlete with an enormous roof. A person of high character. A player that can terrorize quarterbacks in a Denver Broncos unit for many years to come.
Well, that’s what they got.
The brain-trust of John Elway, John Fox and Brian Xanders must believe that they can properly maximize Von Miller’s unique talents and outstanding speed in their new 4-3 defense, as an outside linebacker.
I, for one, trust their thinking. And that means a lot considering that the last leadership group in Denver—we shouldn't really call it a group since it started and ended with Josh McDaniels—had our trust and then completely crushed it after only two years.
Still, it’s hard not to think that this was the right choice.
The Denver Broncos need at least four starters to come out of this draft; there has been just too much poor drafting going back to even the latter years of Mike Shanahan. When it comes to the draft, Denver needs to turn things around quickly... and correctly.
Von Miller is the right choice.
And secondly, drafting Von Miller finally puts to rest any speculation that the Denver Broncos would consider taking a quarterback at this spot, essentially making Tim Tebow the odd man out.
That was quite a bit of smoke there John, but glad you are also a fan of Tim Tebow because the guy really deserves at least a year of football as a starting quarterback. A quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos have their quarterback, and now they have their outside linebacker.
Will he be as explosive and dynamic as Derrick Thomas? Well that is a lot to ask of any player. But it’s hard not to see the similarities. Miller has the speed of a very fast cornerback, has the ability to put on a lot of bone-crushing hits on quarterbacks and can just flat out play.
The Broncos had a very bad defense last year, and Miller can help turn things around very quickly.
Nice job John Elway. First Champ Bailey. Now Von Miller. That’s not a bad start at all.
