2011 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Prospect, Temple Safety Jaiquawn Jarrett

Despite drafting Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman in 2010, the Eagles will be considering drafting more talent at the position in 2011.  Local prospect Jaiquawn Jarrett, out of Temple University, is one player the Eagles may have interest in.

The Eagles have already hosted the safety, who stands at 6’0” and 200 pounds, for a private workout.

Jarrett has been given pretty decent grades by most draft experts, but he may be overlooked by a lot of scouts because he played in a weak conference.  During his time in the Mid-American Conference, Jarrett recorded 292 tackles, two forced fumbles and nine interception for the Owls.

At this year's NFL Combine, Jarrett recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.65 seconds, and put up 225 pounds on the bench press 14 times.  They're not super impressive numbers, but you can't judge a player based solely upon his numbers in the weight room.

When I look at the way Jarrett plays on the field, this is what I notice: He's not the biggest player, and he's not the fastest player, but it's clear that he has talent. 

I think that he can be successful at the next level. But he has to be willing to put in the work and absorb everything he's told by his coaches.

While watching some of the things he's done at Temple, he showed flashes of brilliance.  He also made plays that really made you scratch your head.  If he's not willing to commit himself to becoming a player, he'll make more of those head-scratching plays in the NFL than the brilliant ones.

When the Eagles brought him in, I'm sure they really tried to study his character. They know that he's a strong athlete.  Look at his game tape and you'll be able to see that.  However, he hasn't put together all of the pieces yet in order to maximize his talent.

Jarrett is a guy that I really think could be a decent player in the league some day. But I don't think the Eagles will end up making a play for him.  To me, he seems more of like a project type player.  With the young talent they have in Allen and Coleman already, I don't think they should spend too high of a draft pick on a safety.
