MLB Daily Market Wrap Up

Moving Today's Market

While the teams in the NLDS have the day off, the focus is on the match-ups in the American League playoffs. The Rays look to go 2-0 against the White Sox and are one step closer to winning their first playoff series. Tampa Bay sends Scott Kazmir (12-8, 3.49 ERA) to the mound as the White Sox counter with veteran southpaw Mark Buehrle (15-12, 3.79 ERA). Kazmir has struggled with his mechanics all season and still has not gained control of his slider, but managed to go 8-2 with a 2.90 ERA at home this season. The line has consistently increased all day as the public is pounding the side of the Rays. The line at Pinnacle opened as Tampa Bay -149, and now stands at -163. Sixty percent of the money line bets have been placed on the Rays, and that number continues to move as we get closer to the first pitch. The late game on the East Coast features the Red Sox and Angels in Game 2 of their series. Boston looks to improve to 2-0 as they head back home for Game 3 on Sunday. Daisuke Matsuzaka (18-3, 2.90 ERA) gets the start against Angels All-Star Ervin Santana (16-7, 3.49 ERA). Pinnacle opened at Angels -136 and moved to -124 before coming back to -132. The Steam Move play at Canbet (+16 units) helped the line move closer to the opening line.

Non-baseball games on the schedule for tonight include No. 8 BYU visiting Utah State and Cincinnati taking on Marshall in a non-conference showdown. BYU looks to extend the nation's longest win streak to 15 games. BYU quarterback Max Hall leads an offense that ranks seventh in the nation in passing and 11th in points scored. The Cougars outscored their last two opponents by a combined score of 103-0. BYU opened at Pinnacle -28 and is now at -28.5. Despite the four-touchdown spread, 67 percent of the public wagers are on BYU. The spread is a bit closer in the Cincinnati-Marshall game. The Bearcats go into this game without their quarterback, Tony Pike, who is expected to miss two to four weeks with a wrist injury. The line opened at Pinnacle with Cincinnati at -3.5, but has decreased to -3. The reason for the movement was numerous Smart Money plays on Marshall, including one at Phoenix (+2.61 units), BetAtlas (+1.50 units), CRIS (+4.00), 5Dimes (+9.61 units), ThePig (+4.50 units) and Sportbet (+2.25 units). There were also three Steam Move plays on Marshall , including at Bet Jamaica (+1.70 units), and just one Steam Move for Cincinnati.
