NFL Trade Speculation: 5 Big Names Who Will Be Traded and 5 Who Won't
Thanks to the current lockout, it's nothing but speculation at this point as to whether or not there will even be free agency or any trading this offseason.
Despite this, there has been no shortage of trade rumors and speculation over the last few weeks.
For fans, this offseason has gone similar to those in the past.
There is still talk around the water cooler as to which players could arrive in town and which players might be departing.
Here are five players who will be traded and five players who won't, once teams have the ability to complete trades.
Won't: Brandon Jacobs
1 of 10
Brandon Jacobs is 29 years old.
He has two years and $9.55 million left on a $25 million deal with the New York Giants.
There has been speculation that the Giants are looking to move Jacobs, but it's not likely he will draw much interest.
Jacob's has a hot-head, is nearing the end of his career and has a big price tag.
This isn't even considering the fact that there aren't many teams out there who actually need a running back.
For those who do, there are better options.
Will: Donovan McNabb
2 of 10
Last Easter, Philadelphia fans were taken by surprise when Donovan McNabb was traded to a division rival in Washington.
After one year, it's very unlikely that McNabb will be around for another year with the Redskins.
There were obvious conflicts during the season between McNabb and head coach Mike Shanahan.
At one point, McNabb was even benched for Rex Grossman.
There are multiple teams in desperate need of a quarterback.
McNabb will put a dent in the pocket of the owner who does make the move, but the cost for the team in terms of picks or players will not likely be very high.
Won't: Tim Tebow
3 of 10
I still hope Tim Tebow proves me wrong and succeeds in the NFL.
Despite the fact that Kyle Orton was announced as the starter in Denver, there is little chance Tebow is going anywhere.
Tebow will be entering his second year in the league, following some surprisingly impressive showings in his rookie season.
There is a still a lot for Tebow to learn, and head coach John Fox understands that.
Just because Orton is starting doesn't mean Tebow isn't the future.
He won't be going anywhere.
Will: Nick Barnett
4 of 10
Players do lose their positions due to injuries.
In Week 4, Nick Barnett broke his wrist and was replaced by Desmond Bishop.
Bishop performed well in Barnett's spot.
Head coach Mike McCarthy recently told Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Barnett is no longer the starter.
Barnett is 29 years old and still has some good years of football left.
Linebacker is a position that teams are always looking to improve, and a deal for Barnett wouldn't be a bad idea.
Won't: Chad Ochocinco
5 of 10
Nobody wants to be in Cincinnati.
Nobody can get out of Cincinnati.
Chad Ochocinco clearly would like to finish out his career in another city, but chances are he will have to wait another year.
Ochocinco has one year left on his contract with the Bengals and recent history has shown the team won't be looking to trade him.
It would make sense for the team to get value for Ochocinco while they still can, but Mike Brown has a history of not trading players.
Especially players that want to be traded.
Will: Ryan Grant
6 of 10
Barnett isn't the only Packer who may lose his starting spot due to injury.
If Ryan Grant does stick around, he will likely split time with James Starks, who filled in for Grant last year after he went down with an ankle injury.
There is a good chance that won't be happening.
Adam Caplan reports that Grant is due to make a $1 million dollar roster bonus going into the final year of his contract.
That's a big price for a guy that the team did fine without.
It's probably in the best interest of the Packers to deal Grant while they still can.
Won't: Brandon Meriweather
7 of 10
Meriweather may be a two-time Pro Bowl player, but I don't think many teams want him on their roster right now.
The Boston Herald reported that Meriweather had been linked to a shooting in Florida a few weeks ago.
Just hours ago, the Boston Herald ran another story that Meriweather's lawyer claims to have clear evidence that will prove his innocence.
Even if this is true, commissioner Roger Goodell will still review the case and could hand out punishment.
The event will likely destroy all trade value the Patriots had with Meriweather.
The team will likely retain him through the final year of his contract.
Will: Vince Young
8 of 10
It's clear that Vince Young will not be the starting quarterback in Tennessee next season.
Titans G.M. Mike Reinfeldt is quoted by Sporting News saying, “We have had some discussions. But nothing is imminent with him. There is some (interest), but it is hard, though."
It sounds like the Titans could still get something for Young.
They don't want him.
Other teams are showing interest.
I think it's pretty safe to say that Young will be traded.
Won't: Carson Palmer
9 of 10
Carson Palmer's time in the NFL is quickly nearing an end.
The quarterback has demanded a trade or claims he will retire.
It looks like Palmer will be retiring.
Like Ochocinco's situation, Palmer has requested a trade. Mike Brown has a history of never trading players that want out.
Not to mention, he has already stated there is no way that the team will trade Palmer.
He is stubborn. So is Palmer.
It will end with retirement.
Will: Kevin Kolb
10 of 10
It's possible that there are players on this list who are incorrectly categorized.
This will not be one of them.
If Kevin Kolb isn't on another team by the start of the season, I would be absolutely shocked.
Kolb has made it clear he wants to start. The Eagles are set with Michael Vick as their starter and comfortable with Mike Kafka as a backup.
Rumors have picked up over the last 48 hours that the Eagles have received offers for Kolb, one of which includes a first-round pick.
Even if this isn't true, the Eagles will still deal Kolb for less.
He is entering the final year of his contract, and would spend it on the bench if not traded.
This isn't Cincinnati we're talking about. The Eagles organization wants to capitalize on the current situation.
