2011 NFL Draft: Are the Miami Dolphins in Love With QB Colin Kaepernick?
Colin Kaepernick has been described as the quarterback with the most upside.
He is probably the most confusing quarterback to judge because of his athleticism paired with the college offense he directed at Nevada, the Pistol offense.
At the combine, his velocity was greater than his competition's. His athleticism was also considered top notch.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
He has beaten the best competition on the field when given the opportunity.
He runs the type of offense the Dolphins have been trying to establish since the unveiling of the wildcat offense. He is bigger, stronger and more capable than Pat White. He had to shine through by rising above at a lesser-known university.
The Dolphins have an immediate attraction to him, as they should. The Pistol offense is a creative run-first offense with a dependency on precise route running. Kaepernick can run the creative offense the Dolphins have been desperate to run since Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano took over.
Ryan Mallett isn't Dan Marino. At this point, we don't know if he's Jamarcus Russell. Too many questions, not enough information on Mallett. He's not the fit that Sparano has been searching for.
The Dolphins want a lot from their quarterback (see Aaron Rodgers, Steve Young). They want someone who is an athlete and a passer. Mallet's arm is attractive, his brain is not.
Chad Henne is in the wrong offense. He is the exact quarterback he was in college: He can win a big game here and there and he is very inconsistent. Kaepernick entered the game of football as a freshman and never let go. That's leadership. Watch the clip of his first game as a freshman. It's very impressive.
Can Kaepernick run like that in the pros? No, he is not Michael Vick. He's already communicated that he will have to change how he utilizes his scrambling ability.
Can he pass like a pro? We know that already. His body of work shows that he can.
The Pistol offense requires an accurate quarterback who can throw deep. Some say that the coaching staff at Nevada masked his lack of accuracy with a short passing game peppered with the deep throws.
With Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess, Kaepernick would fit in perfectly. Sparano wants a leader who can get the football into the hands of his playmakers. Both Bess and Marshall have excellent run-after-catch ability.
We know that the Dolphins were/are extremely attracted him. They should be. If the shoe fits...
