Miami Dolphins Alumni Update: January and February 2011

These are all the pro football transactions involving for Miami Dolphins players in January/February of 2011:


  • Jan. 3 — The Dallas Cowboys signed linebacker Kelvin Smith and cornerback Ross Weaver to future contracts. The Dolphins' seventh-round pick in 2007, Smith played in four games for the Dolphins as a rookie and spent the entire 2008 season with the team on injured reserve with a knee injury. Weaver appeared in two preseason games with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2010, recording one tackle and one pass deflection. He was waived during final cuts.
  • Jan. 3 — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed linebacker J. D. Folsom to a future contract. A seventh-round pick by the Dolphins in 2009, Folsom appeared in two games as a rookie and recorded one tackle.
  • Jan. 3 — The Washington Redskins signed wide receiver Taurus Johnson to a future contract. Johnson spent part of the 2009 season on the Dolphins' practice squad and was waived during the 2010 preseason.
  • Jan. 3 — The Carolina Panthers signed defensive tackle Louis Ellis to a future contract. Ellis attended 2009 training camp with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, but did not make the team.
  • Jan. 4 — The Toronto Argonauts (CFL) re-signed defensive end Ronald Flemons to a contract. Flemons played one game for the Dolphins in 2004 and recorded one tackle.
  • Jan. 5 — The Denver Broncos signed guard Shawn Murphy to a future contract. The Dolphins' fourth-round pick in 2008, Murphy spent a season and a half with the Dolphins between 2008 and 2009, but did not appear in a game.
  • Jan. 5 — The Kansas City Chiefs signed wide receiver Kevin Curtis to the active roster. Curtis spent two weeks with the Dolphins in December 2010, catching one pass for six yards.
  • Jan. 6 — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed offensive tackle Nevin McCaskill to a future contract. McCaskill spent five days on the Dolphins' practice squad in mid-December 2009.
  • Jan. 6 — The Georgia Force (AFL) placed offensive lineman/defensive lineman Louis Ellis on the Other League/Exempt list.
  • Jan. 8 — The Indianapolis Colts promoted offensive tackle Joe Reitz from the practice squad to the active roster. Reitz spent two days on the Dolphins' active roster before the season in September 2010.
  • Jan. 10 — The New York Jets signed cornerback Will Billingsley to a future contract. Billingsley spent most of the 2008 and 2009 season on the Dolphins' practice squad.
  • Jan. 11 — The Kansas City Chiefs signed linebacker Micah Johnson to a future contract. Signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in August 2010, Johnson appeared in the regular season opener and recorded one tackle before being waived and re-signed to the practice squad. He was released on Dec. 1.
  • Jan. 11 — The New York Giants signed offensive tackle Ikechuku Ndukwe to a future contract. Ndukwe joined the Dolphins late in the 2007 season and started 15 of 16 contests in 2008. He was traded along with lineman Andy Alleman to the Chiefs in August 2009.
  • Jan. 11 — The Philadelphia Eagles signed tight end John Nalbone to a future contract. Selected by the Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Nalbone split time between the active roster and practice squad as a rookie and did not appear in a game. He played in two games for the Dolphins in 2010 before being waived.
  • Jan. 11 — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker Mortty Ivy to a future contract. Ivy spent a month on the Dolphins' practice squad to end the 2010 regular season.
  • Jan. 12 — The New York Jets promoted wide receiver Patrick Turner from the practice squad to the active roster. Turner appeared in two games as a rookie and did not catch a pass. He was waived prior to the 2010 season.
  • Jan. 13 — The Kansas City Chiefs signed linebacker Eric Bakhtiari to a future contract. Bakhtiari spent a week on the Dolphins' practice squad in November 2010.
  • Jan. 25 — The Jacksonville Sharks (AFL) placed wide receiver/defensive back Scorpio Babers on the Other League/Exempt list. Babers spent part of the 2008 season on the Dolphins' practice squad.
  • Jan. 27 — The Georgia Force (AFL) placed cornerback A. J. Wallace on the Other League/Exempt list. Wallace signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2010, but left the team early in training camp.
  • Feb. 9 — The Cleveland Browns terminated the contracts of linebacker David Bowens and offensive tackle John St. Clair. Bowens spent nearly six seasons with the Dolphins from 2001 to 2006, totaling 120 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 74 games. St. Clair started 14 games for the Dolphins in 2004.
  • Feb. 9 — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker Chris McCoy to a future contract. McCoy was a seventh-round pick by the Dolphins in 2010 and had a brief stint on the team's practice squad in November.
  • Feb. 10 — The Arizona Rattlers (AFL) acquired wide receiver Kerry Reed from the Tampa Bay Storm (CFL). Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007, Reed spent his rookie season on the Dolphins' practice squad.
  • Feb. 11 — The Orlando Predators (AFL) signed wide receiver Bobby Sippio and placed him on league suspension. Sippio spent part of the 2004 season with the Dolphins on injured reserve, but never played in a game with the team.
  • Feb. 15 — The Tampa Bay Storm (AFL) signed wide receiver Frank Murphy to a contract. Murphy spent the 2006 offseason with the Dolphins before being waived in August.
  • Feb. 17 — The San Jose SaberCats (AFL) signed offensive lineman/defensive lineman Mark Lewis to a contract. Lewis attended 2009 training camp with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon, and also spent time on the team's practice squad.
  • Feb. 18 — The Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL) signed defensive end Tearrius George to a contract. George spent the 2009 offseason with the Dolphins before being released in August.
  • Feb. 21 — The San Jose SaberCats (AFL) placed defensive back Courtney Bryan on the Left Squad list. Bryan appeared in 19 games over the 2007-2008 seasons, recording 14 tackles.
  • Feb. 21 — The Utah Blaze (AFL) placed offensive lineman/defensive lineman Toniu Fonoti on reassignment. Fonoti signed with the Dolphins in November 2006 and appeared in six games for the team as a reserve lineman.
  • Feb. 28 — The Chicago Rush (AFL) placed wide receiver Todd Devoe on the PUP list. Devoe spent two weeks on the Dolphins' practice squad in Sept. 2004.
