MLB Daily Market Wrap Up

Moving Today's Market

Baseball is going into the final weekend of the season and there are three playoff spots that still need to be determined. The Mets, Phillies and Brewers are chasing the final two spots in the National League, and the Twins are a 1/2 game ahead of the White Sox for the final spot in the American League. The Mets send Mike Pelfrey (13-10, 3.70 ERA) to the mound against the Marlins and 21-year-old Chris Volstad (5-4, 3.10 ERA). Last season the Marlins spoiled the Mets playoff chances by coming into Shea Stadium in the last weekend and taking two-out-of-three. The Mets opened as -166 at Pinnacle and has decreased to -151. This indicates Smart money action on the Marlins because 65% of the bets have been placed on the Mets. Three sportsbooks, monitored by Sports Insights, including BetUs (+14.64 units) and TradeSports (+11.13 units) triggered Smart money alerts. This weather reports are calling for rain in the New York area so there is a possibly this game will be part of a doubleheader Saturday.

The team in the National League controlling their own destiny, Philadelphia Phillies, open their final three-game series tonight against the Nationals. Joe Blanton (8-12, 4.79 ERA) looks to help his new team against the Nationals and Collin Balester (3-6, 4.83 ERA). The Phillies opened at Pinnacle favored at -240 and has climbed to -250. The public is increasing the line as 77% of the money line bets are on Philadelphia. The Phillies are 8-4 when Blanton starts. The third game with playoff implications involves the Cubs and Brewers. The Brewers are tied with the Mets for the NL Wild Card spot and send Jeff Suppan (10-10, 5.06 ERA) to the mound against Ryan Dempster (17-6, 2.99 ERA). The Brewers opened at -125 with Pinnacle, but since dropped to -111 after 56% of the money line bets are on the Cubs. The Cubs will use these next three-games to rest some regulars, but don't be surprised if they try and win these games to keep their rival-Brewers out of the playoffs.

The National League playoff race has been intense, but you can't forget about the battle for the AL Central division. The Twins host the Royals and the White Sox are home to the Indians. Both the White Sox and Twins are favored in their perspective games. The Twins send their future ace to the mound Francisco Liriano (6-3, 3.39 ERA). Minnesota opened at -225 with Pinnacle and is now at -255, so the 79% of money line bets on Minnesota are pushing the line in their direction. The White Sox opened -175 at Pinnacle with John Danks (11-8, 3.20 ERA) starting but the line has decreased to -155, despite 68% of the money line wages favor Chicago. The Wise Guys (professional bettors) like the Indians as two Smart money alerts have been triggered.
