2011 NFL Trade Rumors: Players for All 32 Teams Who Need to Be Dealt
2011 NFL Trade Rumors: Which Player From Each Team Has the Most Trade Value?
The NFL offseason is upon us, and that means each team will be looking to improve their roster through the draft, free agency and even trades.
Here we will be going through all 32 teams in the NFL and figuring out which player on each roster could get the most value on the trade market. Obviously not all of these guys will be traded, but each team could improve their teams by trading these guys.
The sad news is that because of the looming NFL lockout, the trade market and free agency could suffer this offseason. However, we could also see some big trades by teams desperate to improve if a labor deal is finished in a relatively timely manner.
Who do you want your team to try to ship? Let us know.
Dallas Cowboys: Marion Barber, RB
1 of 32
Marion Barber hasn't had a really productive season since 2007. I know the yardage was good last year, but 2007 was the last time he had double-digit touchdowns.
Barber is just 27 years old and is still a valuable power back.
The Cowboys could decide to move him because of the emergence of Tashard Choice and Felix Jones.
New York Giants: Osi Umenyiora, DE
2 of 32
If there is one thing that has defined the Giants over the last few years it has been their depth at defensive line. Not only do the Giants have a large group of defensive linemen to throw on the field at any one time, but they all have a high skill level.
Osi Umenyiora is one of the more productive defensive linemen in the NFL and if the Giants decided to move him, they could get a lot of value in return.
If the Giants moved Umenyiora they could concentrate on re-signing Mathias Kiwanuka or they could give Jason Pierre-Paul a chance to really progress in the lineup.
Philadelphia Eagles: Kevin Kolb, QB
3 of 32
Coming into this season it looked like Kevin Kolb was going to be the franchise quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. However with the re-emergence of Michael Vick, Kolb has become expendable.
Kolb's value could not be higher than it is right now. He has had some success but he is a relative unknown commodity.
The Eagles could get quite a bit in return for Kolb including potentially a rather high draft pick or two.
Washington Redskins: Albert Haynesworth, DT
4 of 32
Is anyone sure what the Washington Redskins are doing to rebuild their franchise? Are they sure they know what they are doing? When looking at the Albert Haynesworth situation I am inclined to answer both questions with and emphatic, "NO!"
Haynesworth was a marquee free agent signing a few years back and he signed one of the richest contracts in the NFL history. However, Haynesworth and the Redskins had a falling out when the team switched to a 3-4 defense which would force the defensive tackle to play nose tackle.
If the Redskins decided to move Haynesworth they probably wouldn't get equal value in return but they would at least get something instead of the limited production the former Titan would give them in 2011.
Arizona Cardinals: Max Hall, QB
5 of 32
After watching just how badly the Cardinals struggled at the quarterback position in 2010, there needs to be a change of the guard in Arizona.
Max Hall didn't get a chance to make much of an impact last year after struggling with an injury but after seeing John Skelton play it seems like the Cardinals will need to chose one of the two. I expect them to stick with Skelton who got some more playing time.
The Cardinals could get some good value in return for Hall. Probably not much, but at least enough to make it worth it.
San Francisco 49ers: Frank Gore, RB
6 of 32
I know this may seem crazy but the 49ers would be wise to try and shop Frank Gore. The former Miami Hurricane is coming off a bad hip injury, which could spell death for a running back. It is unsure just how good Gore would be when he comes back.
Jim Harbaugh would probably want to have as many quality guys on the roster as possible and I know that Gore would have some great success in San Francisco, but I also think that the former Stanford coach has his eyes on his protege Andrew Luck.
Harbaugh could get more pieces for his roster if he were to ship out Gore. The amount that the running back would get in return would be helpful.
Seattle Seahawks: Leon Washington, RB/KR
7 of 32
The impact that Leon Washington has on special teams cannot be undervalued. However, the Seahawks are going to need more than a kick returner in order to make the leap from one of the worst teams to ever make the playoffs to actual contenders.
Washington could get a large amount in return if the Seahawks were to consider trading him.
After getting Marshawn Lynch from the Bills that made Washington's impact as a runningback a little more obsolete for the Seahawks.
St. Louis Rams: Mark Clayton, WR
8 of 32
This might sound counter-intuitive because the Rams are in need of receivers, but Mark Clayton could have good value for the Rams in a trade.
The Rams will likely be drafting a receiver in the first round if they get someone with the right credentials at their pick.
Moving Clayton reminds me of the saying, "You have to spend money to make money." If the Rams moved Clayton it would allow them to address other needs.
Chicago Bears: Greg Olsen, TE
9 of 32
Greg Olsen really broke out in 2010 and the Bears could get a large package in return for the former Miami Hurricane.
While they might want to keep Olsen around as a safety blanket for Jay Cutler, the Bears could also rely more on Kellen Davis to be the starting tight end.
Plenty of teams would be looking to get a quality tight end this offseason and Olsen is probably the best available.
Detroit Lions: Bryant Johnson, WR
10 of 32
The Lions have been in rebuilding mode for nearly a decade now yet they still have quite a few holes that need to be addressed.
Bryant Johnson hasn't lived up to his first round potential so far in his eight-year career, but he is still a quality player and could garner a nice return in a trade.
If the Lions were able to get a decent offensive lineman for Johnson then I think the trade is a no brainer.
Green Bay Packers: Matt Flynn, QB
11 of 32
The Packers already have a marquee quarterback on their roster that took the team to a Super Bowl this year by the name of Aaron Rodgers, so it doesn't seem like Matt Flynn is really someone who could be considered trade bait.
However, the Packers have apparently already been fielding calls regarding the former LSU Tiger.
If the Packers decided to move their back-up quarterback it would appear that they could get a number of helpful pieces in return.
Minnesota Vikings: Bernard Berrian, WR
12 of 32
Bernard Berrian didn't have much success in 2010 but he is still a legitimate big play receiver that could help any number of NFL teams.
The Vikings already have Sidney Rice (if they re-sign him) and Percy Harvin who will be the top two targets for whoever they have playing quarterback in 2011.
The Vikings don't have a ton of holes but they could at least add depth by trading Berrian.
Atlanta Falcons: Michael Jenkins, WR
13 of 32
The sign of a good quarterback is someone who can make even average receivers look good. The Falcons have a good quarterback in Matt Ryan.
If you look at the Patriots model from the last few years, once they get a player to look at least half-way decent they flip him for more than he is worth. The Falcons could do that with Michael Jenkins.
If the Falcons traded Jenkins they could get a nice mid-round draft pick or maybe even an established player for him.
Carolina Panthers: Steve Smith, WR
14 of 32
The Panthers are probably the worst team top-to-bottom in the entire NFL right now. Not only do they not have a quarterback but they also have holes on nearly every unit.
The only asset Carolina has, aside from the top overall pick in the NFL draft, is receiver Steve Smith.
The former Pro-Bowler is still a legitimate player with quite a bit left in the tank, but I think he needs a change of scenery. The Panthers could also get quite a bit in return for him.
New Orleans Saints: Devrey Henderson, WR
15 of 32
The New Orleans Saints have a surplus of talent at the receiver position. Devery Henderson is one of the guys that I think the Saints could move to upgrade their roster.
While I am unsure that Henderson could have the same impact on a team other than the Saints, I think teams could give up enough to get him on their team.
I know the Saints would be hoping for a runningback in return for Henderson so the market might be limited but I think they could find a suitor.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Brian Price, DT
16 of 32
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a high opinion of Brian Price when they drafted the former Pac-10 defensive player of the year in the second round out of UCLA last year, however after being placed on injured reserve in week seven he didn't have the impact they thought he would.
Now after watching Price in college I think it is just a matter of time before he makes a big impact in the NFL but I don't know that he will be making that impact in Tampa.
The Bucs had a few other defensive tackles emerge in 2010 so I don't think Price is necessary for Tampa to have success next year. They could move him to a team that needs him more in exchange for a couple other pieces.
Buffalo Bills: Lee Evans, WR
17 of 32
The Bills are another team that has been in rebuilding mode longer than their fan-base deserves. They have not been in the playoffs since the famed Music City Miracle game and they have not been competitive at all over that stretch.
Lee Evans is probably their best weapon on offense, but I think they could use the receiver as an asset to rebuild the team.
Plenty of teams would give up quite a bit to acquire Evans. If the Bills traded him for other pieces they could finally make a leap in 2011 and might even make the playoffs.
Miami Dolphins: Tyler Thigpen, QB
18 of 32
Tyler Thigpen is a very underrated quarterback but I still think he could garner a hefty price for a team looking to make a change at the quarterback position.
Now the Dolphins still appear to be committed to Chad Henne as their quarterback of the future, but the could use Thigpen to add some other things they need.
The Fins could use a runningback so if they send Thigpen to the 49ers as part of a package for Frank Gore.
New England Patriots: Patrick Chung, S
19 of 32
In the playoffs the Patriots went for a fake punt in a critical situation against the Jets that blew up in their faces. It is unclear is Patrick Chung was the one to make the call for the fake punt, and if that is the case I think Chung's days in New England are numbered.
The Patriots have a few safeties on the roster that could step in for Chung if he is moved.
I think Chung has enough talent that he could be a valuable trade piece for a New England team in need of more talent and depth on defense.
New York Jets: Vernon Gholston, DE
20 of 32
Vernon Gholston was the sixth overall pick in the draft in 2008. Since then he has not live up to that high pick. It seems like he would be best suited for a change in scenery.
I don't know how much the Jets would be able to get for Gholston, but I think it is worth a shot.
If the Jets could get a mid-range or average receiver I think it could be worth it.
Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton, QB
21 of 32
After a terrible 2010 season the Denver Broncos are in need of some real talent on the defensive side of the football. With the emergence of Tim Tebow at quarterback it seems like Kyle Orton is a guy that the Broncos could move in exchange for some big pieces.
Orton is actually a guy that could help a number of NFL teams that are in need of a quarterback.
The question is how much teams would be willing to pay for the former Purdue star.
Kansas City Chiefs: Derrick Johnson, MLB
22 of 32
The Kansas City Chiefs were one of the surprises of the 2010 season. They were able to make the playoffs this season, and they appear to be a team that isn't going anywhere.
However, the Chiefs still have a few holes on the roster and Derrick Johnson appears to be a guy that still has some value despite failing to live up to the promise he had after coming out of Texas.
Linebacker is still a position of need that the Chiefs will likely be targeting in the draft, but Johnson is a guy that they could move.
Oakland Raiders: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR
23 of 32
Darrius Heyward-Bey actually took a slight leap up in 2010 but he still has a ways to go to justify his high draft pick.
Looking at the Raiders roster, receiver is not really an area of need next season and Heyward-Bey could be a guy that they could get some value out of.
Honestly, I think there is no way the Raiders would move Heyward-Bey, but I think they should.
San Diego Charger: Cam Thomas, DT
24 of 32
After being drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 draft Cam Thomas didn't make as much of an impact this season. That is due in large part to the fact that Antonio Garay emerged as a legitimate nose tackle for the Chargers 3-4 scheme.
Not many people on earth are built like Thomas and the Chargers could get some real value in a trade for the big guy.
The Cowboys are one team that could use a prototypical 3-4 nose tackle and Thomas fits that mold.
Baltimore Ravens: Willis McGahee, RB
25 of 32
Willis McGahee hasn't been able to live up to the expectations placed on him when he was at Miami, but he is better than how he has been used in Baltimore.
McGahee is more than just a complimentary back and he could show that skill somewhere aside from Baltimore.
If the Ravens decided to move McGahee I think they could use him to start getting younger on the defensive side of the ball.
Cincinnati Bengals: Chad Ochocinco, WR
26 of 32
Despite the fact that Chad Ochocinco has appeared to be on the decline the last few years, it has more to do with the fact that Carson Palmer has been declining and less to do with the receiver.
I think Ochocinco could still end up being a quality NFL player if he were put in the right situation and the Bengals are not that.
I know the Bengals aren't going to trade Palmer despite his demands, but I think they could possibly find his successor in an Ochocinco trade.
Cleveland Browns: Mohamed Massaquoi, WR
27 of 32
The Browns have a nice young quarterback in Colt McCoy and a star runningback in Peyton Hillis but they have some glaring holes on defense and could use Mohamed Massaquoi as trade bait.
Massaquoi is a good young receiver, but he isn't quite the weapon that they hoped he would be.
The Browns could trade the former Georgia Bulldog for some defensive help.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Limas Sweed, WR
28 of 32
Limas Sweed missed the entire 2010 season with an Achilles injury. The good news is he is expected to make a full recovery, the bad news is that the Steelers found some dependable receivers that stepped up in his absence.
The Steelers don't have a ton of holes on the roster but if they could get an offensive lineman for the former Texas star then I think a trade would make perfect sense.
I still think Sweed could end up being a nice NFL player but a change of scenery could do him some good.
Houston Texans: Steve Slaton, RB
29 of 32
Steve Slaton has had a very up and down career so far for the Houston Texans. He has a 1,300-yard season followed up by fumbling problems before losing his starting job to Arian Foster.
Despite the fact that Slaton has seemed to really drop in the depth chart, I think he still has a lot of trade value.
The former West Virginia star could be worth of a trade and if the Texans were getting a defensive back in return the I think it is a slam dunk.
Indianapolis Colts: Dallas Clark, TE
30 of 32
This year we saw that the Colts can survive on offense without Dallas Clark. Sure the tight end has a ton of skill and is a walking mismatch, but the Colts were able to turn to Jacob Tamme with no real consequences.
The Colts problems are running back, offensive line, and defensive secondary. If they were to move Clark they could address at least one of those areas.
I think Clark still is a highly thought of tight end and he could be over-valued in the trade market.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Rashad Jennings, RB
31 of 32
Rashad Jennings had some real nice moments in 2010 after seeing Maurice Jones-Drew miss some time with and injury. His stock could end up being higher now than ever before,
The Jaguars almost made the playoffs this year with an average roster. If they moved Jennings then I think the could really be a threat to win the AFC south next year.
I don't know how much people would be willing to pay for Jennings and I don't know if the Jags wouldn't want to keep him as an insurance policy but it is possible.
Tennessee Titans: Vince Young, QB
32 of 32
The Titans could be going through some real hole-sale changes this year. Not only are they facing their first season with a new coach since the 1990s but they have already announced that they would be moving Vince Young.
The Titans will have no shortage of suitors for the former Heisman runner-up.
I do think the Titans could be good in 2011 if they were to get the right package in return.
