Pro Bowl 2011: Who Were the Studs and Who Were the No-Shows?

Brian DiTullioJun 7, 2018

The Pro Bowl has come and gone, and it looks like everyone had a good time. No big injuries to report, but some of the players definitely had better games than others.

Even some of the quarterbacks, who were playing under the friendliest rules you can have, didn't have great days.

We'll take a quick rundown of players in the Pro Bowl and look at who showed up to play and who just went through the motions.

*Note: As of this writing, Getty Images has not uploaded any photos of the Pro Bowl, so none of the pictures will be from this year's game.

Stud: Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson ran for 80 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown.

That's a good day in a normal game.

No-Show: Michael Vick

PHILADELPHIA, PA - JANUARY 09: Michael Vick #7 of the Philadelphia Eagles scrtambles against B.J. Raji #90 of the Green Bay Packers during the 2011 NFC wild card playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field on January 9, 2011 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (

Michael Vick was 5-for-10 for 59 yards and just couldn't get in sync with his receivers.

Several deep balls on the opening drive just couldn't connect and the NFC was forced to punt instead of making the highlight reel.

Stud: Philip Rivers

DENVER - JANUARY 02: Quarterback Philip Rivers #17 of the San Diego Chargers looks to deliver a pass against the Denver Broncos at INVESCO Field at Mile High on January 2, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The Chargers defeated the Broncos 33-28. (Photo by Doug

Philip Rivers had two picks on the day, but with the amount of passing and lack of chemistry with the receivers, that's just a blip.

Rivers still had 192 yards on 17 completions with two touchdowns.

That's still a good day.

No-Show: Peyton Manning

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - JANUARY 08: Quarterback Peyton Manning #18 of the Indianapolis Colts looks to pass against the New York Jets during their 2011 AFC wild card playoff game at Lucas Oil Stadium on January 8, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Jets won 17

Manning went 2-for-5 for 12 yards and one pick. Manning may as well have not shown up.

Then again, Bill Belichick may have switched up the offensive calls on Manning, just to mess with him.

Stud: Jamaal Charles

Like Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles showed up to play, running for 72 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown.

One of Charles' runs was for 32 yards, not too shabby for a Pro Bowl.

No-Show: Arian Foster

Arian Foster had 13 yards on three carries, his longest for eight yards.

Foster also had a fumble, but he didn't lose it.

Stud: Reggie Wayne

Reggie Wayne showed up in a big way, catching five passes for 86 yards and nabbing a touchdown.

Wayne's longest catch was for 36 yards.

No-Show: Devin Hester

Devin Hester had two catches for 27 yards and lost a fumble.

He had five returns, averaging 20 yards a return, but with the soft coverage, Hester should've really had a field day out there.

Stud: Matt Ryan

9 of 11
ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 15: Quarterback Matt Ryan #2 of the Atlanta Falcons rolls out to pass against the Green Bay Packers during their 2011 NFC divisional playoff game at Georgia Dome on January 15, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Packers won 48-21. (Phot

Matt Ryan was 9-for-13 for 118 yards, two touchdowns and only one interception.

On a day when the ball was getting picked off a lot, Ryan almost managed to avoid that troubling turn of events.

No-Show: Wes Welker

10 of 11
FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 16: Wes Welker #83 of the New England Patriots looks on during their 2011 AFC divisional playoff game against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on January 16, 2011 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Wes Welker had five catches for 34 yards, and he's worked with Matt Cassel before.

Welker also lost a fumble, which probably made Bill Belichick really happy.

Honorable Mention: Alex Mack

The linemen didn't have a lot to do in the Pro Bowl, but special mention must be given to Alex Mack for his heads-up play grabbing the lateral and running it in for the touchdown when the rest of the players looked like they had already packed it in for the night.

The touchdown was meaningless, but Mack forever will cherish that moment.
