Miami Dolphins: What Matt Moore's Iminent Signing Means for the Kyle Orton Trade
The Miami Dolphins are currently working on a deal that would bring fifth-year veteran quarterback Matt Moore to the team on a two-year contract.
The monetary value of the contract has not yet been released.
Moore has played his entire career with the Carolina Panthers after going undrafted out of Oregon State in the 2007 NFL draft.

Moore famously lead the Panthers to a 4-1 finish as the starter for the last five games of the 2009 NFL season, completing 61.6 percent of his passes for 1,053 yards and an 8-2 touchdown-interception ratio.
Moore started 2010 with the starting job but was benched due to poor play in favor of Jimmy Clausen after a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Moore regained his job in Week 7 before going down with a shoulder injury in Week 9.
Moore was then placed on the injury reserve.
Now, along the line of the Kyle Orton trade, reports are that the deal is starting to crumble after the Dolphins are not willing to give up either a second- or third-round pick. Orton's contract is also becoming an issue in the deal.
If Matt Moore is indeed signed by the Dolphins, then I see two scenarios playing out.
Scenario A
The first scenario is that the Dolphins decide to keep Moore and have him compete against Chad Henne for the starting job. The Dolphins offense is much better than the Panthers was last year, and that would greatly benefit Moore.
Moore as well fits the Dolphins new offense that will rely heavily on the running game and require the quarterback to make accurate throws when needed.
If Moore does not win the starting job, then that means he has pushed Henne to improve, and if not, at least the Dolphins will have someone to back him up instead of undrafted free agent Pat Devlin out of Delaware.
And no disrespect to Devlin. I believe he will one day start for the Dolphins, just not this year.
Scenario B
The second scenario I could see playing out is the Dolphins trade Moore to the Denver Bronocs in return for Kyle Orton.
The trade would be Matt Moore, a Dolphins fourth-round draft pick and Phillip Merling in return for Kyler Orton and the Broncos sixth-round draft pick.
Orton would give the Dolphins a veteran quarterback to lead the team for years to come and then one day give the reins to Pat Devlin.
Moore will be giving the Broncos a back-up quarterback because do you really want Brady Quinn backing up Tim Tebow? Didn't think so.
Moore also previously worked with current Broncos Head Coach John Fox in Carolina.
Phillip Merlin would also give the Broncos an interior defensive lineman, which they have a need for.
The deal makes sense.
And while, as said above, they are reports that the Orton to Miami deal is falling apart, Dolphins Manager Jeff Ireland is still maintaining aggressive as evident of his 2 a.m. deal for Reggie Bush.
The Broncos don't want Orton on their payroll and plan on handing the reins to Tim Tebow anyway. Also, not many suitors remain after all of the quarterback moves made in the past couple days.
Kyle Orton fits perfectly with the Dolphins. They have a top-notch defense and a great young offensive line to compliment the running game featuring rookie Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush.
Orton would also be reunited with Brandon Marshall who gave each other their best statistical season in 2009 with the Broncos.
The Dolphins have gaping hole at quarterback as well.
