MLB Power Rankings: Milton Bradley and The 10 Biggest Prima Donnas In Baseball
It's hard to tell from that picture, but that is Manny Ramirez inside the Green Monster in the middle of a game.
In baseball there are plenty of guys who have a love and passion for the game that is admirable.
However, there are also plenty of people who seem more interested in themselves than the game, or their team for that matter.
This is a list dedicated to the latter.
10. Derek Jeter
1 of 10
Derek Jeter was considered one of the most humble players in all of sports...until this summer.
Originally it was reported that Jeter wanted $150 million for six years. Then it was reported he wanted $22 million to $24 million a year, down from $25 million.
Does he realize he is a 37-year-old shortstop?
He eventually "settled" for an incentive-laden three-year $51 million contract. Poor guy.
9. Scott Boras
2 of 10
Scott Boras is feared by every baseball executive in America.
Boras holds most of the negotiating records in MLB history and has represented a few people on this list.
He has been referred to many times as one of the most hated men in baseball and is known for beginning contract negotiations at ridiculously high prices.
If there is a guy who will convince your favorite player to leave your hometown for the big bucks of the Yankees or Red Sox, it is Boras.
8. Ozzie Guillen
3 of 10
Ozzie Guillen loves to provide outlandish quotes.
About Red Sox player Dustin Pedroia he said, "That kid should be in the circus and I have to walk him to face someone else. He should be riding some horses and I have to walk that kid. It’s very weird when you walk a guy who is 4-foot-11."
About the Cubs he said, “But one thing about Wrigley Field, I puke every time I go there. That’s just to be honest. And if Cub fans don’t like the way I talk about Wrigley Field, it’s just Wrigley Field. I don’t say anything about the fans or anything now."
About Jay Mariotti he said, ""He's a piece of ****. He's a [homophobic slur]."
The first two are more of the printable Guillen quotes. Usually plenty of f-bombs are dropped and lines are crossed, like the Mariotti quote. Most managers would have been fired, but not Guillen, who led the White Sox to a World Series title in 2005.
7. Miguel Cabrera
4 of 10
Miguel Cabrera has made an art out of jogging every time he hits a fly ball.
Not only that but two seasons ago Cabrera was arrested after a night of partying the night before a crucial game against the White Sox late in the season.
The people Cabrera got drunk with? The White Sox.
His wife called the police on him and he a blew an incredibly high BAC of .26. Rather than bench Cabrera the Tigers played him and he went 0-4.
6. Dallas Braden
5 of 10
He yelled at A-Rod for walking across "his mound."
Really Braden? And this was before he even threw his perfect game.
5. Milton Bradley
6 of 10Ironically, 43 minutes before I searched Milton Bradley on Google he was arrested for threatening a woman in Los Angeles.
Not exactly a surprise.
Bradley has thrown more tantrums in the MLB than he has made good plays. My particular favorite was when he threw a bag of balls onto the field, but there are plenty of good ones.
Why do teams still tolerate him? He should be banned.
4. Carlos Zambrano
7 of 10Zambrano hasn't been relevant for his play in a few seasons.
But he has found a way to stay on ESPN.
Usually by fighting teammates, water coolers and the occasional bat.
3. Hanley Ramirez
8 of 10
I couldn't find video of the play that got Hanley Ramirez benched, but surely you all remember it.
Ramirez missed a pop-up, then accidentally kicked the ball into the left field corner. With the left-fielder having pursued the pop-up, Ramirez ended up heading toward left field while Cody Ross ended up heading toward shortstop.
Instead of hustling he jogged after the ball allowing two runners to score.
Fredi Gonzalez, the manager at the time, benched Ramirez. Instead of accepting his punishment Ramirez lashed out against Gonzalez in the media.
As a Marlins fan I was hardly surprised to see Ramirez loaf, in fact, it was quite common for him. He was the superstar and expected to be treated like one. Gonzalez let it go on so long that Ramirez thought he could do whatever, and when he was finally benched, Ramirez flipped.
2. Alex Rodriguez
9 of 10Warning: The video above has unedited language.
Alex Rodriguz is more cocky and self-centered than any other player in the MLB today.
Sure, he is probably the game's best player, but does that excuse his antics?
The video above shows him shoving a teammate around, what kind of guy does that?
A book by Sports Illustrated columnist Selena Roberts accuses him of many things. Among the accusations are:
-In Texas he reportedly had a clubhouse attendant prepare his toothbrush with toothpaste for him and even demanded the team send food baskets to his room on road trips.
-He went to a sex club while his wife was pregnant with their first child.
-He would hit on teammates' wives.
-His pickup line would include asking whether he or Derek Jeter was better looking.
Those are just a few, but he doesn't sound like a guy you would want to be around.
1. Manny Ramirez
10 of 10Manny Ramirez is a goofball, so much so in fact that his antics have been dubbed "Manny being Manny."
What Ramirez and his fans don't realize is that what he does is disrespectful to the game.
Cell phone breaks, urination breaks and high-fiving fans in the middle of a play are the norm for Ramirez. Having fun isn't problematic though until it affects your play.
Several of Ramirez's breaks have nearly caused his teams to begin play without a left fielder, and he is notorious for not hustling both on defense and offense.
At this stage in his career it is unlikely he will ever grow up.
