Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears: 5 Stadiums That Could Play Host in Week 15

Nicholas GossDec 15, 2010

Monday night's NFC North showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears will not be played in the Metrodome, but there are plenty of stadiums willing to host the game.

Right now, it seems the Metrodome in Minneapolis will be unavailable to host any sporting even for quite a while.

A couple of teams have already offered their support to the Vikings.

The Lions have offered to host the Vikings for the second consecutive week at their state of the art Ford Field in Detroit, and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has revealed Lucas Oil Stadium is available to host the game.

The Vikings have several options available, but there are some other stadiums that could host the game too. Now let's look at five stadiums who could host the Bears vs. Vikings game on Monday night.

TCF Stadium at The University Of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota football program plays their home games at TCF Bank stadium, and according to ESPN, this is the site the Vikings want to play Monday night's game vs. the Bears.

The Vikings have spent millions of dollars trying to clear snow out of TCF Bank stadium, among other tasks, in order to get the stadium ready for an NFL game.

While the Vikings want to play the game outside at TCF Stadium, the capacity is well below the number of seats the Metrodome holds.

This creates a massive ticket problem. Many fans might not be able to attend the game because TCF Stadium cannot accommodate every Vikings season ticket holder. This issue may be the main reason the NFL could consider moving the game to a current NFL stadium.

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is a beautiful stadium and is plenty large enough to host any event, even a Final Four (like in the picture).

Colts owner Jim Irsay has publicly said that Lucas Oil Stadium is available for Monday night's game and it's probably the best choice for all parties involved.

Indianapolis is not far from both Minneapolis and Chicago and the large capacity of Lucas Oil Stadium would be able to seat all the Vikings season ticket holders.

Lucas Oil Stadium is also an enclosed stadium, providing perfect weather conditions for a game that has importance to Chicago.

Ford Field in Detroit

Ford Field hosted last week's Vikings game against the New York Giants. The stadium is quite large and the city put lots of people in the stands.

The Lions did a great job of hosting the game, and are the likely to receive this Monday's game if TCF Bank stadium in Minnesota is not fit for an NFL game.

Ford Field is an indoor stadium, and is a first class facility. It is close to Chicago and Minneapolis, but Vikings fans are not likely to be willing to travel to Detroit two weeks in a row to what was supposed to be a home game.

The Big House at The University Of Michigan

4 of 5

The University of Michigan just hosted a college hockey game between rivals Michigan State and Michigan and set a Guinness world record for the largest crowd ever at a hockey game.

Michigan stadium is a possible destination for the Vikings vs. Bears game on Monday Night, and after just having a massive event in the last few days, there shouldn't be too much snow in the stands.

The Big House is one of the largest stadiums in the country and would be able to accommodate any amount of fans wishing to attend.

With the college students on break, there would be lots of opportunity for NFL fans to attend the game and Michigan would prepare the stadium well. They've seen their fair share of important games.

Ohio Stadium at Ohio State University

5 of 5

The "Horseshoe," as it's called, is one of the best places to host a football game, and if all other options fail, Ohio State might be willing to host the Bears and Vikings on Monday night.

Ohio Stadium is a great place for players to play and the massive capacity makes for a great atmosphere.

This is an unlikely destination for the Vikings to play Monday night, but it certainly is a possibility.
