Top 25 Most Exciting NFL Touchdowns of 2010 (With Video)

Dan TylickiDec 14, 2010

As the NFL season begins to wrap up, we can begin to take a look back at the season. We’ve seen the revival of Michael Vick, the emergence of Arian Foster, fines galore and, as usual, many exciting touchdowns.

The idea of football is to put up points so, naturally, getting a flashy touchdown both helps your team and gets the play on the highlight reel. Whether it’s taking an interception back for a touchdown, bringing back a kick return, or just making an amazing dive for the ball, it’s something the fan lives to see. The following are the 25 most exciting touchdowns that we’ve seen so far this year.

25. Matt Forte Starts The Season Strong

1 of 25

In week one against the Detroit Lions, the Bears were down then Matt Forte broke off on an 89-yard touchdown run. It narrowed the deficit and proved to be the difference maker in a Bears victory.

24. Aqib Talib Tries to Make Himself a Household Name

2 of 25

In a closely-contested game against the Arizona Cardinals, the Bucs needed to make a play. Enter Aqib Talib, who picks off Derek Anderson at midfield and brings it in for the touchdown, giving Tampa Bay the win.

23. Randy Moss Still Has It

3 of 25

Randy Moss is likely on the tail end of a great, long career, but in a few games with the Patriots, he still had one trick up his sleeve. In an early matchup against the Jets, he makes this one-handed touchdown catch while being defended by the elite Darrelle Revis.

22. Rashard Mendenhall Makes a Statement

4 of 25

The Steelers were without their starting quarterback due to suspension and were facing an elite NFC team in the Falcons. They brought the game to overtime, when Rashard Mendenhall and his 50-yard touchdown run showed why the Steelers are meant to be feared.

21. Charles Woodson Makes History

5 of 25

In a game against the Lions, Charles Woodson made a diving grab to make the pick, then somehow was able to get up and score a touchdown. It marked his tenth interception returned for a touchdown and put him in elite company.

20. Tim Tebow's First NFL Touchdown

6 of 25

You might argue that this one doesn't technically count, since it occurred in the preseason. After all, how could one of the most exciting touchdowns happen in a game that doesn't matter? To you I say, watch the video and tell me that wasn't a gutsy play.

19. How'd The Browns Beat The Patriots? Part One

7 of 25

For two weeks, the Browns were exciting to watch. And during those two weeks they faced the Patriots. How did they beat them? In Exhibit A, Colt McCoy gets a 16-yard touchdown on a play that Browns quarterbacks don't normally make. Who else could make plays like that? Maybe Jeff Garcia, but certainly no one else since re-establishment.

18. How'd The Browns Beat The Patriots? Part Two

8 of 25

In Exhibit B, which happened just before Colt McCoy's touchdown, Chansi Stuckey gets the touchdown run on a strange Wildcat play that we'll probably never see again this season. Josh Cribbs seems to hand the ball to Stuckey, confusing the Browns, the Patriots, and us. Nonetheless, an amazing play.

17. Devin Hester Can Still Make The Highlight Reel

9 of 25

Late in the second quarter, the Bears are trailing the Cowboys. Who should the ball be thrown to? Naturally, the answer is Devin Hester. Just get it in the vicinity and he'll make it work.

16. Kroy Biermann Pulls Off an Unlikely Pick Six

10 of 25

When you're a defensive lineman, your number isn't often called to make picks. As such, most would be satisfied deflecting the pass and diving for it. Not Kroy Biermann. He gets backup and keeps running, though he should have been tackled there at least twice. But he gets the touchdown.

15. Don't Underestimate Darren McFadden, He'll Make You Regret It

11 of 25

With two minutes left in the game, the Raiders hand the ball off in hopes of getting the first down to tie the game. Instead, he bounces off a pile, spins past it, stiff arms a tackler and evades another to get the touchdown, showing flashes of the brilliance we saw at Arkansas.

14. Adrian Peterson Being Adrian Peterson

12 of 25

In a hard-fought game against the Detroit Lions (I'm starting to see a pattern here that explains their struggles), Adrian Peterson flat-out outruns the Lions defense and gets an 80-yard touchdown run, the longest of his career. He makes these sort of runs look pedestrian with the speed he has.

13. Leon Washington Is The Seahawks

13 of 25

How are the Seahawks tied for the lead in the NFC West? Part of it is due to a poor division, but part of it is Leon Washington, whose two kick returns for touchdowns proved to be the difference in a win against the Chargers.

12. Tony Moeaki Makes a Leap of Faith

14 of 25

When you have Dwayne Bowe on your team setting franchise records, the top rushing tandem in the league, and you're a rookie from Iowa, how do you get noticed? Make a catch like this.

11. Santonio Holmes Is Clutch, Part One

15 of 25

For a couple of weeks, Santonio Holmes was the best guy in the league to close out a game. With 23 seconds left in overtime against the Browns, Mark Sanchez throws a short pass to Holmes, who makes three different defenders miss him en route to the game-winning touchdown. The Browns stopped winning after that.

10. Santonio Holmes Is Clutch, Part Two

16 of 25

A week later, the Jets faced the Texans. Down four points with 16 seconds left, Sanchez throws a pass into the corner and Holmes heaves it in for the game-winner. The Texans stopped winning after that and Santonio Holmes became known yet again for clutch performances.

9. Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson Show Off

17 of 25

The opening play on Monday Night Football wasn't the only thing that Michael Vick's had up his sleeve this year. In a tie game late against the Cowboys, Vick throws a 91-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson. Not only does Jackson traverse the field both ways, he then stops just short and falls in the end zone while the Cowboys' D just watches helplessly.

8. David Garrard's Hail Mary

18 of 25

In Week 10, the Jaguars needed a win against the Texans to stay competitive against the Colts. In a tie game situation with little time left, do you take a knee, or throw it in the end zone and try to win it now? The answer to that is obvious to any football fans, and David Garrard proves why.

7. Bryan McCann Makes The Giants Look Foolish

19 of 25

The Giants are down by six early in the game against the Cowboys and have a third-and-goal. Instead of a run, Eli Manning goes for a pass. It gets picked off by Bryan McCann, who usually is limited to special teams, and he runs it in for 101 yards and the score. Needless to say, the Cowboys won.

6. Tom Brady Gives Thanks to Having Deion Branch Back

20 of 25

In a Thanksgiving showdown, the Patriots found themselves trailing the Lions. Tom Brady set out to fix this and threw a bomb to Deion Branch at the 40-yard line, where he should have been tackled. Instead, he evades two defenders and gets the touchdown to tie the game on the 79-yard pass and lead the Patriots to a victory.

5. Sidney Rice Makes The Catch Over a Defender, Literally

21 of 25

After the Bills jump out to an early lead and Brett Favre goes down to injury, Tarvaris Jackson throws a pass to Sidney Rice that not only would be intercepted if it were any other receiver, but I'm still not sure exactly how he caught it.

4. First Play Of The Game and It's Already Over

22 of 25

It's pretty rare for a game to end on the first play. In the literal sense that obviously never happens, but even symbolically it doesn't really happen either. Michael Vick set out to change this on Monday Night Football by throwing an 88-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson. The Eagles went on to score 59 points against the Redskins.

3. Donald Driver Just Won't Go Down

23 of 25

In a back-and-forth matchup between the Packers and the 49ers, Aaron Rodgers throws a perfect long pass to Donald Driver. He then takes the play from good to amazing and slips past a minimum of five defenders before making it into the end zone. He tested negative for soaking himself in oil before the play.

2. Two Interceptions. Returned For Touchdowns. By a Lineman

24 of 25

It's one thing for Drew Brees to throw two interceptions for touchdowns against the Browns. Their secondary isn't all that bad. It's another to throw them to a lineman who has two in his long career. It's yet another for him to return both for touchdowns, doing a roll to end the second. Too bad David Bowens has been a nonfactor since.

1. LaGarrette Blount Makes The Leap of The Year

25 of 25

In a game against the Panthers, the Bucs lead 7-3. Josh Freeman hands it to LaGarrette Blount. What happens next is so awesome that I can't put it into words. Just watch the video.
