Fantasy Football Week 14 Rankings: Quarterback Matchups To Exploit

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballDec 7, 2010

Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) at Detroit

The beginning of the season was a bit of a struggle for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but the second half hasnโ€™t been.

Rodgers has now gone five games without throwing an interception after throwing one or more in six of Green Bayโ€™s first seven games.

Rodgersโ€™ performance against the Detroit Lions earlier in the season was a bit of a mixed bagโ€”three touchdowns but two picks and under 200 yardsโ€”but the second time around should be much better.

The Lions are giving up about 17 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, and have allowed eight passing touchdowns in their last three games.

Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) at Houston

It was expected to be a tough game last week, and thatโ€™s just what it was for the Baltimore Ravens in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco ended up with a solid performance, throwing for 266 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Things wonโ€™t be as tough for Flacco or the Ravens this week as they face the Houston Texans. Houston has the worst defense against opposing quarterbacks from a fantasy football perspective, as the Texans are giving up about 19 points per game to them.

The only reason we have Flacco projected for fewer than 19 points (by one point) is because a strong running game from Baltimore could limit Flaccoโ€™s opportunities.

Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) at Washington

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman has now had three straight games with fewer than 200 passing yards, and has had just one touchdown a game in each of the last two weeks.

However, in the last two weeks heโ€™s faced the Baltimore Ravens and the Atlanta Falcons, two of the better defenses in the league.

This week offers a reprieve for Freeman and the Tampa Bay offense as they face the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are giving up about 17 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, and that sounds just about right for Freeman this week.

On top of that, the Redskins have been burned big in the past by quarterbacks, as theyโ€™ve given up two four-touchdown games to the position this season, so there is the potential for a big game as well.

Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears) vs. New England

Though the New England Patriots are playing very well this season, it has not been because of their defense. Specifically, the Patriots are bad at defending against the pass.

New England ranks last in the league in passing yards allowed per game, and the Patriots are giving up almost 18 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.

This matchup comes at a good time for Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who has gone two games without throwing an interception, and has thrown just three picks in his last five games.

As long as Cutler continues to play like he has been since the bye week, it should be another good outing for him.
