MLB Week in Review: Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, 2010

    A team-by-team review of major and minor happenings, stuffed with turkey leftovers.

    The non-tender deadline was Thursday night, which doesn't always mean a team is cutting ties with a player but can give some insight on their direction.

    The hot stove is starting to heat up, as there were some signings too. So let's review the week, kids.

Baltimore Orioles

    The Fighting Showalters opted to non-tender 27-year-old righty reliever Matt Albers.

Boston Red Sox

    INF Felipe Lopez declined arbitration.

    2B Dustin Pedroia's foot is reportedly on track to be healed by spring training.

    The Red Sox had in-person meetings with free agents Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford.

    C Jason Varitek signed a one-year, $2 million contract.

New York Yankees

    SS Derek Jeter and GM Brian Cashman played chicken.

    RHP Brian Anderson signs minor league deal.

    LHP Andy Sisco signs minor league deal.

    SS Derek Jeter and GM Brian Cashman stared each other down.

    OF Brett Gardner will have wrist surgery. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

    RHP Alfredo Aceves fractured his left clavicle riding a bike in Mexico. He underwent surgery Tuesday and is expected to need three months recovery time.

    Alfredo's week got worse on Thursday, being non-tendered.

    RHP Dustin Moseley was non-tendered.

    Report: RHP Mariano Rivera signed a two-year, $30 million contract.

    SS Derek Jeter and GM Brian Cashman had a breath-holding contest. It appears Cashman lost, as a new contract offer was issued on Thursday.

Tampa Bay Rays

    OF Carl Crawford declined arbitration. He's a Type A free agent.

    RHP Rafael Soriano declined arbitration. He's a Type A free agent.

    INFs Russ Canzler and J.J. Furmaniak, RHPs Richard De Los Santos and Cory Wade and LHP R.J. Swindle were signed to minor league contracts.

Toronto Blue Jays

    RHP Jeremy Accardo was non-tendered.

    OF Fred Lewis was non-tendered.

Chicago White Sox

    LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith was non-tendered. Great, great guy. Hope he lands somewhere and gets back on track.

Texas Rangers
