Mike Florio is reporting this morning that Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams was arrested on DUI charges and is still being retained at the time of this article.
Earlier this year, another Buccaneers player, Jerramy Stevens, was arrested for fooling with some "doobies," which led to his prompt release—Florio doesn't see the same fate for Williams.
There’s two issues here that are intertwined:
1. Williams already has a troubled past, dating back to his days at Syracuse.
2. Troubled NFL players tend to trend toward crime when already predisposed.
So, what do you do in regard to fantasy?
Williams has been on his way to being one of the best fantasy players of the 2010 rookie class, but this latest off-field incident suggests that swift action will fall on Williams via the Tampa Bay brass.
With a schedule that has a couple of nice matchups and a couple of not-so-nice matchups, Williams looks to be solid sell-high material at this point rather than a player you want to risk keeping.
The Buccaneers have to travel to San Francisco later today, so even if Williams gets released in time, it is unclear how the team will handle this.
He remains—for this week, anyway—a sit candidate.
