Michael Vick Should Replace Brett Favre Next Season in Minnesota

Bobby BrooksNov 16, 2010

On August 14th, 2010 I wrote an article titled "Five Reasons Why Vick Should Replace Favre as Vikings QB".  Over 6000 people read the article and over 100 people replied.  The article remained dormant for months.

Two hours ago one more person decided to respond.

All Tony P said was "Vi(c)kings 2011".

At the midway point of the current NFL season, could more be said with less?

In fact, a better question is why post that response now?  The answer is easy.  Michael Vick is currently being discussed as the league's MVP while Brett Favre is living a waking nightmare.

When I first wrote that article Favre was still "undecided" about coming back.  I suggested that the Vikings seek out a trade to acquire Vick and let Favre ride his tractor and make more Wrangler commercials.

My five reasons were as follows:

1) Vick is better than Tavaris. I don't think there was any doubt about this then and now it's solidified in cement.

2) Vick knows the west coast offense.  It's safe to say that Vick has progressed quite a bit as a pocket passer and has a much better understanding of how to go through his reads than ever before.  The transition would be seamless to Minnesota.

3) A trade would benefit both teams.  A trade in August would have been much more beneficial for Minnesota than it will be after the Super Bowl is handed out, but it doesn't mean the Vikings can't pursue it.

4) Philadelphia almost lost Vick for nothing.  One of the storylines that people are overlooking with the recent Vick hype is how close he was (and still is) from losing it all.  He's one more bad miss-step from getting suspended. Given what happened in the summer, he's not in the clear yet.

5) Viking fans would go along with it.  This point still stands.  If they can accept Favre, they will have no problem accepting Vick.  Even if he is an ex-convict.

After 10 weeks of the NFL season my opinion hasn't changed.  The Vikings should pursue Vick hard after the season if they want to avoid a painful transition at quarterback next year.  They already made one big mistake bringing Favre back this year by deluding themselves into thinking it could be a magical year once again.

Coach Childress will likely get fired, so a new coach might be bringing in a different system next year. But if they do hire another West Coast guy then Vick would be a perfect fit.

Many fans in Philly will argue that their town should be called Vickadelphia after he put up a performance for the ages yesterday, but let's not forget about Kevin Kolb.  Many years were put into this kid and the organization still thinks he has a bright future.  They should be able to get the return they were looking for last offseason given how Vick has played.

If this happens then Tony P will stand correct.

Say goodbye to the Brett Favre era and welcome in the 2011 Minnesota Vickings.
