Atlanta Falcons' Roddy White Named NFC Offensive Player Of the Month

Paul MuellerNov 3, 2010

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October on Wednesday.

White had 29 catches for 489 yards in four games, and he surpassed 100 yards receiving in three of those games.

After the only game he did not reach 100 yards in, a Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in which he managed 83 yards without a touchdown, he came back with a 201-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7.

The Falcons were 3-1 in October, and White is on pace to set career marks in every major offensive category.

Perhaps the highlight of his month did not come on the receiving end of a Matt Ryan pass, or on offense at all, for that matter.

Late in the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers, Ryan was intercepted by cornerback Nate Clements. While trying to return the pick for a score, White motored down the field and punched the ball out from behind, and the Falcons recovered.

With a new set of downs, the Falcons marched down the field to kick the game-winning field goal.

White and the Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT. The two are tied atop the NFC South at 5-2.
