Randy Moss and the Chicago Bears: Reasons Why Moss Should or Shouldn't Be Signed
By now, everyone in the NFL world knows that Randy Moss has been cut by the Minnesota Vikings just three weeks after being acquired from the New England Patriots for a third round pick. The Vikings tried him out, tried to make it work but things just didn’t work out for him there.
Enter the Chicago Bears. This is a team in need of a big name number one wide receiver and Moss could be the kind of guy that the Bears need to have on the team especially with the kind of offense that they are running.
Would he fit in Chicago? Would it be worth their time for the Bears to sign him? Let’s find out as we look at five reasons to sign him and why those five reasons may not be good enough to bring him to the Bears.
Moss Is a Proven Wide Receiver
1 of 10
This is very true. Moss is a proven wide receiver with a lot of experience and could really help the Bears out. He’s played in a variety of different kind of offensive systems which means he can pick things up quickly and adjust as needed. With the kind of offense that Chicago's Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz runs, this would be very helpful.

Even though he’s been through a lot and seen a lot would he be valuable especially since he will have to learn an offensive system that is one of the most complicated in the NFL? By the time he reads the playbook and starts understanding the offense, would it be too late?
Moss Can Come in and Help the Team Right Away
3 of 10
The Bears do need to start winning now and it’s possible that Moss could come in, learn quickly and help the team out right away. His experience far surpasses the experience of any wide receiver currently on the Bear’s roster. That experience alone would be enough to help the Bears get their passing game going, gain more yards, score more points and win more games.

Realistically, how much help can Moss provide the Bears in such a short amount of time? There are just nine weeks left in the season and it may take him that long to get up to speed. Just how valuable will he be learning on the fly? Can he contribute right away as the Bears need someone to contribute right away on offense? These are all questions that must be answered (in the Bears favor) before they could consider signing him.
There Is a Familiar Face On the Team, So Moss’ Attitude Could Be Held In Check
5 of 10
Remember that current Chicago Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice was Moss’s coach in Minnesota for a period of time. It would definitely help to have a familiar face on the team, someone that Moss knows and could trust and this might be enough to help him curb his attitude and become a positive productive player on the team.

Moss has had a negative effect on NFL locker rooms almost everywhere he’s gone, especially in his latest stop with the Vikings. Would the presence of Tice be enough to help him calm down, straighten up and play well? Perhaps but the Bears do have to look at the bigger picture. They cannot afford to have a cancer in the locker room especially with the younger wide receivers they have and the chance they still have to get to the playoffs.
Moss Is Worth the Money Left On His Contract
7 of 10
Moss has about three million dollars left on his contract and for the “potential” value that he represents, he might just be a good option for the Bears. If he can come in and work some magic in the lineup then he would be worth every penny of the remaining amount on his contract. The Bears might see the value in this and jump.

Many experts feel that Moss is looking for a team that will give him his next contract. Keep in mind that he is a free agent this off-season. Would the Bears be the kind of team that would give him a long term deal? Chicago is historically isn’t that type of team and if Moss gets the feeling that they won’t be the team to give him a long term deal he may not want to go there.
Moss Would Put Fear In Any Opponent the Bears Face
9 of 10
This is true. Moss still puts fear in any team that he has played and having him on the team would open up opportunities for other players on the team to make plays. With Moss double covered, this would help another open receiver (such as Devin Hester or Johnny Knox) be able to make plays. Imagine what this could do for their passing game?

Which Randy Moss will show up to play? Will it be the guy that played so well in Minnesota and New England all of those seasons and was very productive or will it be the same guy that quit on the Vikings in Minnesota last week and got cut? The Bears could not afford to have a guy that quits on them be on the team especially on offense.
