Randy Moss Cut: For Chicago Bears To Save Season, Picking Up Moss a Must

Randy Moss was acquired by the Vikings a month after a blockbuster trade, and was released by them today. His fate now begins with the lowly Buffalo Bills, as they have the worst record in the NFL, and could be picked up last by his former team, the New England Patriots.

Almost certainly however, he will be picked up in the middle of the waiver line. The Bears would be anywhere from 17th to 20th in line to pick up his services, as the Bears are 4-3 and are preparing to play the winless Bills in Canada this Sunday.

The Bears need a big-play threat down the field for Jay Cutler, and someone who has played in pressure situations before as a No. 1 wide receiver. He would create favorable matchups for receivers like Johnny Knox, Devin Aromashodu and tight end Greg Olsen.

However, after Moss' apparent meltdown after the Vikings lost to his most recent former team, the New England Patriots, his disruption outweighed the fact that Favre wanted a true No. 1 wide receiver in Moss, after Sidney Rice has missed more than half the season with a hip injury.

The Bears are a team in desperation, shown by the acquisitions of Jay Cutler, Orlando Pace, Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor. They also traded their last two first- and second-round picks as well. The Bears are poised to win now and Moss has proven to be better than all of the Bears current wide receivers.

If Lovie Smith is a good coach, he would be able to keep Moss in check while allowing the offense to grow and develop with another tool in Mike Martz's tool box. This move would also provide the Bears the best chance to return to Dallas to win Super Bowl XLV.
