NFL Week 8 Predictions are in the house, at least my personal picks of the contests to come.
And from a gridiron game between the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos at London’s Wembley Stadium to a Monday night matchup at Indianapolis between the Colts and Houston Texans, there’s plenty on tap in Week 8 action.
Teams with a bye week on Halloween Sunday include the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.
So, with looming questions—ranging from the New York Jets returning to the field after a bye week to how 49ers QB Troy Smith will fare in London—let’s begin examining Sunday’s showdowns before concluding with ESPN’s Monday Night Football game…
Kansas City -7.5
Why the Bills Could Win
The Bills (0-6) remain the lone winless team in the NFL, and it would take a complete miracle for Buffalo to win this weekend at Kansas City.
Why the Chiefs Could Win
The Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) should walk away with an easy win in Sunday’s Week 8 contest, especially considering the team is 3-0 at home.
Kansas City wins in a landslide, Chiefs by 24.
Why the Redskins Could Win
The Redskins (4-3) heads out this weekend for a matchup with the reeling Detroit Lions—and considering Washington is 2-1 on the road, the team should be able to start a streak after a Week 7 win.
Why the Lions Could Win
The Detroit Lions (1-5) are aiming to do everything possible to contain the Washington Redskins on Sunday and attain a victory, but will likely continuing it’s losing slide after falling last weekend.
Washington marches into Detroit and garners a big road win; Redskins by six.
Why the Dolphins Could Win
The Miami Dolphins (3-3) enter this weekend’s showdown after a heartbreaking loss to Pittsburgh in Week 7, and aim to bounce back by improving on it’s undefeated 3-0 road mark.
Why the Bengals Could Win
The Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) have lost three straight contests and will be not hesitate to go to extremes to pick up a win and dig itself out of it’s current slump; but don’t count on that happening.
Dolphins cruise on the road, with Miami winning by 10.
San Francisco -1
Why the Broncos Could Win
The Broncos (2-5) look to regain footing after getting beat down by Oakland in Week 7, although Denver is also currently riding a three-game losing streak.
Why the 49ers Could Win
The 49ers (1-6) will be turning to quarterback Troy Smith to help right the ship for San Francisco, aiming to bounce back from a Week 7 loss.
This game is truly a toss-up, but I foresee Denver taking care of business against the 49ers this weekend in London; Broncos by four.
NY Jets -6
Why the Packers Could Win
The Packers (4-3), fresh off another wild win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, will be looking to start a streak on Sunday—although Green Bay is just 1-2 on the road.
Why the Jets Could Win
The New York Jets (5-1) enter Week 8 after a bye week, and will be aiming to make it six straight wins with a victory this weekend.
With New York returning to the gridiron after a bye week, look for the team to regain control in Week 8—Jets by eight.
St. Louis -3
Why the Panthers Could Win
The Carolina Panthers (1-5) look to finally win on the road in Week 8, taking a 0-2 record away from home into St. Louis this weekend.
Why the Rams Could Win
The St. Louis Rams (3-4) will be happy to be on it’s home turf this Sunday, riding a 3-1 home record into the matchup with the Panthers.
Rams win again at home, with St. Louis garnering a six-point victory over Carolina.
Why the Jaguars Could Win
The Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) enter this weekend’s showdown with the cellar-dweller Dallas Cowboys on a two-game losing streak, aiming to bounce back on Sunday in the Lone Star State.
Why the Cowboys Could Win
The Dallas Cowboys (1-5) can’t seem to find a way to win this season—especially at home (0-3)—and look to break free from a three-game slide.
Jaguars come into Cowboys Stadium and nail the coffin on Dallas’ season, with Jacksonville winning by three.
San Diego -3.5
Why the Chargers Could Win
The San Diego Chargers (2-5) have lost three straight contests, and will be looking to return to form on it’s home field—where the team holds a 2-1 record this season.
Why the Titans Could Win
The Titans (5-2) have every reason to believe it can win on the road in 2010, with Tennessee going 3-0 away from home.
Look for the Titans to continue rolling this season, garnering another big road win; Tennessee by four.
Why the Buccaneers Could Win
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2) are another undefeated team away from it’s home field, and will be riding a 2-0 road record into Sunday’s showdown with Arizona.
Why the Cardinals Could Win
The Arizona Cardinals (3-3) look to bounce back after a Week 7 setback, returning home where the team holds a perfect 2-0 mark.
This game is another toss-up, although I believe Tampa Bay walks away as five-point winners in this Week 8 contest.
Why the Seahawks Could Win
The Seahawks (4-2) are riding a two-game winning streak heading into this weekend’s contest with the Raiders, although Seattle is just 1-2 on the road.
Why the Raiders Could Win
The Oakland Raiders (3-4) are 2-1 at home this season, and will be aiming to roll into Week 8 after a blowout victory last weekend over the Broncos.
Oakland will indeed win again after it’s Week 7 destroying of Denver, with the Raiders cruising to a six-point victory on Sunday.
New England -6.5
Why the Vikings Could Win
The Minnesota Vikings (2-4) lost to Green Bay in Week 7, and may lose again on Sunday—especially with the team rolling to a 0-3 road record in 2010.
Why the Patriots Could Win
The New England Patriots (5-1) have won four straight contests, going 3-0 at home, and look to make it five consecutive victories with a Week 8 win.
New England wins this one big, with the Patriots destroying the Vikings by 13.
New Orleans -1
Why the Steelers Could Win
The Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1) have won two straight games, and will be riding an undefeated 3-0 road record into it’s Week 8 contest with New Orleans.
Why the Saints Could Win
The New Orleans Saints (4-3) aim to bounce back after a Week 7 loss, looking to return to form on Sunday at home—where the team holds a 2-2 mark in 2010.
Pittsburgh storms into New Orleans and garners a big Week 8 win, with the Steelers defeating the Saints by seven.
Why the Texans Could Win
The Houston Texans (4-2) enter it’s Monday night matchup with the Colts after a bye week, and will be putting the team’s 2-0 road record on the line at Indianapolis.
Why the Colts Could Win
The Indianapolis Colts (4-2) also enter Monday’s game following a bye week, and will be riding a two-game winning streak and a 2-0 home mark into its Week 8 showdown with the Texans.
Texans win in a nail-biter, drilling a late field goal to lift Houston to a two-point win over the Colts in Week 8.
