Green Bay: Maybe Getting Rid Of Favre Was a Good Thing

For those who needed even more proof that Rodgers was up to the job, here it is: preseason game three. Rodgers did an excellent job today, completing 18/22 passes for 193 yards to nine different receivers during the time he was in, he threw one touchdown, rushed for one touchdown, and threw not one interception.

Yesterday, I wrote an article explaining my frustration with people who have been loudly expressing their displeasure with Aaron. Today, I'd be surprised if any one of those insipid people had a gripe with him.

To me, Aaron has now proven himself. He's played well in many games, starting last season versus Dallas. In that game he threw for 218 yards and had a 106.7 quarterback rating.  

In the Preseason opener against Bengals Rodgers completed 9/15 passes (three or four of which were dropped by his receivers, through no fault of his own) for 117 yards in the one quarter he played. In the second preseason opener Rodgers did okay, but his overall performance was stunted by a poor show by the offensive line (he was sacked four times). Today, Rodgers did very well, possibly better than he did against the Cowboys.

Rodgers seems to be playing quite consistently well, and if he continues this quality of play I think that the Packers are going to do very well. Rodgers may end up being better for the Packers even than Favre (unlikely as that seems).  

My reasons for believing this are as follows: Favre was brilliant, no doubt about it, but he did have some flaws that I don't believe Rodgers will. Favre has a tendency to make bad decisions that often times end up as interceptions. 

Aaron Rodgers has shown that he's a good quarterback, and capable of leading this Packers team. He is, however, more cautious than Favre, which could be a huge asset for the team.

Now for the bad news: Brian Brohm does not seem to be very good.  He did well in college, but so far seems incapable of adjusting to the NFL. He has done poorly in both practice and in every preseason game so far. If he ends up playing (because of some unfortunate Rodgers mishap), I don't think things bode well fore the Packers.  

Matt Flynn seems to be doing okay. He's been doing really well in practice and pretty well in the preseason games. Frankly, I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up being the second string quarterback for the Packers.

When it comes down to it, I'm very happy with Aaron so far, and his good playing is making me feel tingly in a good way. As long as he doesn't get injured, I feel confident that the Packers will make it to the playoffs.
