2010 Chicago Bears: Failure Is an Option For Coach Lovie Smith

Nicholas FischOct 25, 2010

As the Bears finished their meltdown against the Washington Redskins, fans were left wondering where the Bears went wrong. They completed a march down the field to end the first half, after allowing Jay Cutler to throw quick passes, mainly to Johnny Knox, and it was completed by a red zone TD.

The second half started the same as the first half, with quick passes to Earl Bennett, which led the Bears to the one-yard line. However, a QB sneak fumble by Cutler on 1st-and-goal on the one erased the opportunity the Bears had to take control of the game.

Cutler later went on to throw four interceptions to DeAngelo Hall, one of which was returned for a touchdown and sealed the Bears' loss.

Lovie Smith and his staff were praised for their "adjustments" in Dallas, however, the wrong "adjustments" were made vs. the Redskins, as the run game was abandoned on the last drive, and Cutler seemed to lock in on Knox until his last pass was intercepted by Hall.

Lovie Smith has no clue who's doing what on the offensive side of the football, and after saying for five previous years that the Bears have come off the bus running, the run game has been abandoned by Mike Martz.

This is the fear I was afraid of when the Bears failed to find coordinators who are on the upside of their careers, instead the Bears find Mike Martz off of the NFL Network, and hire Rod Marinelli last year after going winless in 2008.

The Bears prolonged the inevitable for me and started off 4-1, however at 4-3, I'm more a believer in just riding out the rest of the year so the Bears would make new hires all around and perhaps trade players like Lance Briggs or Jay Cutler.
