Terrell Owens and the NFL's 25 Most Overrated Players
Not that this is any shock to me, but apparently even the other players in the NFL think Terrell Owens is one of the most overrated players in the game. Ouch.
What does that say about you when other players are coming out against you and they don't think you're as good as you think you are?
Wouldn't that be the last thing you would want to hear?
I'm sure that Owens isn't the only player that other players are talking about. How many others do they think are overrated? How many others aren't as good as they see themselves.
A few names that were named were Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo and New York Jets' quarterback Mark Sanchez.
There are far more than the three names we've named here. So let's go through the 25 most overrated players in the NFL.
No. 25: Shaun Phillips

Yes Charger fans, Shaun Phillips gets us started on this list. I have a half a mind to give him grief about the pink gloves.
Through six games, he has just six sacks on the season, prompting some fans to wonder where he's been so far.
No. 24: T.J. Houshmandzadeh

T.J. Houshmandzadeh was one of those receivers that every fantasy owner wanted to have on their team, especially during his days with Cincinnati.
However, now that he's with the Baltimore Ravens, he hasn't done much of anything. His highest performance this season was three catches for 49 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
No. 23: Mario Williams

Wasn't Mario Williams the number one overall pick of the Houston Texans back in 2006? Doesn't seem like he's playing like a number one pick so far this season.
Sure he has 16 tackles, but it's sure not helping their defense any especially since they're giving up 400 yards of offense per game.

No. 22: Cadillac Williams

This kid was as good as any running back coming out of college, but since then he's spent more time being injured than actually on the field.
Though, I guess the nickname "Cadillac" would fit since the cars spend more time in the shops than on the road, right?
No. 21: Matt Hasselbeck

Matt Hasselbeck might be better known for being the husband of outspoken blond Elisabeth Hasselbeck who gives her very republican opinions on the day time show "The View," than being the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks.
Not saying he hasn't had good seasons in the past but this one isn't shaping up to be one of those.
No. 20: Reggie Bush

When was the last time a Heisman trophy winner did anything of substance? Can you name the last one, because I can't.
Reggie Bush was supposed to be the next big thing when he came out of USC but the only thing he has done for anyone is cost his former school scholarships and bowl appearances.
Other than that, he hasn't been near what the Saints were hoping.
No. 19: Alex Smith

Another number one pick that hasn't panned out. What a surprise.
What is more surprising than Alex Smith not doing much of anything to help the 49ers is the fact that they haven't benched him to save their season.
At least they finally got on the board with their first win of the season, even if it was against the lowly Oakland Raiders.
No. 18: Bernard Berrian

This pains me to do especially because Bernard Berrian is a former Fresno State Bulldog. But, there's no bias here so he goes on the list.
Berrian started his career off well but hasn't quite been the guy that most thought he would become.
His numbers this season are way down from previous years, and it doesn't help that Brett Favre isn't exactly looking for him.
No. 17: Marion Barber

He went in with a bang for the Dallas Cowboys but he's been anything but a steady source of yards and touchdowns for the team this season.
So much so that there were rumors flying around that they were going to attempt to trade him prior to the deadline yesterday. But, it came and went and Barber remained in Dallas.
No. 16: Nate Burleson

Less than 200 yards shy of a 2,000-yard season in 2009, Detroit Lions' wide receiver Nate Burleson hasn't been the big name that he used to be.
So far, through four games he has just 12 catches for 129 yards. Not exactly the production the Lions were hoping for.
No. 15: Lance Briggs

Lance Briggs, next to Brian Urlacher, is usually one of the guys who leads the Chicago Bears defense. At least, that's what he's been known to do in recent years.
However, despite his 33 tackles so far this season, he's registered just one sack. They're going to need more than that from their big linebacker if they're going to get anywhere near the playoffs.
No. 14: Willis McGahee

Willis McGahee, the Baltimore Ravens need you, desperately. Making Joe Flacco do everything just seems a tad cruel, not to mention a little more than the quarterback can handle.
McGahee is going to need to give the team more production than just 143 yards on 40 carries, a 3.6 yard per carry average.
No. 13: Matt Ryan

Okay, before you Falcon fans go postal on me, let's admit that Matt Ryan hasn't been near the guy that he's been the last few years.
While he's on pace to have fewer interceptions than he did last season, his touchdowns are also on pace to be fewer than they were a year ago.
I know it's still early, but it's not going to change my opinion. Yet.
No. 12: Keith Brooking

My wife hates me for putting anyone with the Dallas Cowboys on this list, but she's far more biased than I am so she'll have to deal with that.
Keith Brooking is one of the reasons their defense continues to get pushed around. You can tell me all you want that they have the best defense in the NFC, but how has that worked out for them so far?
I'm sure he's a solid guy off the field, but he's overrated on it.
No. 11: Chad Ochocinco

Chad Ochocinco. I keep wondering when he's going to change his last name back to Johnson.
For a guy that has as much talent and athleticism as this guy has, it surprises me that he's visited the end zone just one time in five games.
Also, his yards per catch average is down from 14.5 last season to 12.2 this season. He may get to 1,000 yards this season, but I don't think he'll get anywhere close to his nine touchdowns he caught last season.
No. 10: Brett Favre

You better believe Brett Favre is on this list. Through five games, he's already matched his interception total (7) from last season.
His yards per attempt is down, his yards per game average is down and his interception rate is way up.
Maybe Favre has a better future in photography. Well, maybe not.
No. 9: Eli Manning

Just so I'm being fair, I do have a bias against Eli Manning for his decision to let his "daddy" talk for him and tell an NFL teams who could and couldn't draft his son. It shouldn't work like that. You're a rookie, you're getting to play football for a living, go where you're drafted.
Next to that, Manning is set to surpass his 14 interceptions all of last season since he's already at 10 through six games.
Another number that might be surpasses is the amount of times he was sacked last season (30). He's currently sitting at 11 and that number may climb fairly quickly if he's not careful.
Yes he has a Super Bowl ring, but I think that had more to do with his team's defense than Eli doing anything.
No. 8: Maurice Jones-Drew

Maurice Jones-Drew had a big year last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished with 1,391 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
This season, however, Jones is off to a slow start and may not pick up any steam if he continues the way he's going.
His yards per carry are down as is his yards per game. He's not the running back they were hoping to get back from a big year, or maybe last year was just a fluke.
No. 7: Matt Cassel

The Kansas City Chiefs are waiting for Matt Cassel to live up to the big contract they gave him and they're waiting to see the guy who led the New England Patriots while Tom Brady was on the sidelines.
They sure haven't seen that this season as Cassel is averaging just 170.2 yards per game.
I knew their three straight wins was too good to be true. Turns out it was.
No. 6: Philip Rivers

Sorry Charger fans, but you'll have to live with this pick.
Say what you want about his 400 yard games and his multiple touchdown passes, but where has that led the Chargers so far?
Sure their special teams stink, but there's one stat that stands out to me. When Rivers throws the ball more times than the team trusts their running backs, they lose. Guess what, that's four times. Guess what else, they lost all four.
No. 5: Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez can sit up there in New York and pretend he's the next coming of Broadway Joe, but he's just another overrated athlete to come out of USC.
You can add him to the list of Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, John David Booty, and now Sanchez.
Quite a group, don't you think? The Jets are as good as they are because of their defense, plain and simple.
No. 4: Albert Haynesworth

Overrated. Drama. Immature.
Yeah, all three of those words work nicely when you're referring to Albert Haynesworth. Given a big chunk of change by the Washington Redskins and then you complain about the defensive schemes that are being run?
You can't have your cake and eat it too, Albert. It doesn't work that way. Man up, get on the field, and produce.
No. 3: Tony Romo

Tony Romo is a guy that Cowboys fans have wanted to ride out of town on the first train that became available.
While the Dallas media will sit up in the chair high seats and tell you that Romo isn't the problem, he certainly isn't the solution either.
Apparently, they'd rather continue to fire head coaches before they fix what really could be the problem.
Yes Romo has had some bad luck with tipped balls being intercepted but he has how many playoff wins in his tenure? How many head coaches have been fired while he's been there?
Anyone else see a pattern here?
No. 2: Randy Moss

Yes, Randy Moss makes the list and yes he's high up on it, too. His problems off the field make him a liability on the field.
Why do you think the Patriots would have cut Moss without getting a thing back for him? They would have taken a bag of footballs in return for the diva wide receiver.
He has tremendous talent but he's yet to not cause a problem on any team he's been on.

Terrell Owens tops our list for more reasons than I care to list here.
He had a slow start to the season with Cincinnati but he has made a strong comeback over the last few.
However, it doesn't make him any less overrated as a player. Why do you think the high number of players voted the same way?
It's amazing how you act off the field, or even on the field, gives you an overrated view of a person.
