The Yankees are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1994, but gamblers still believe there is some fight left in the team. The Sharps (professional betters) and the public are pounding New York as two Steam Moves have caused the Pinnacle line to move from -139 to -158, and the Yankees are receiving 75 percent of the money line bets. Hideki Matsui returned to the lineup Tuesday night and went 0-for-3, but he helps a team that has struggled against left-handed pitching. They are hitting a combined .262 against southpaws, compared to .276 against right-handers. They face a southpaw in David Purcey (2-3, 5.93 ERA), who has been impressive late, throwing six shutout innings against the Tigers last Wednesday, but overall has struggled in his rookie season.

The cross-town rival New York Mets have received attention against the Braves. Pinnacle opened at -154 in favor of Mike Pelfrey (11-8, 3.91 ERA) and the Mets and has since decreased to -131. The professionals (smart money) are putting their money on Jair Jurrjens (11-8, 3.15 ERA) and Atlanta as Steam Moves were triggered at two sportsbooks. The Mets have won 11 of Pelfrey's last 13 starts but the Braves have owned Pelfrey this season. He has a 10.61 ERA in 9-plus innings against the Braves and Brian McCann, Chipper Jones, Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francoeur have .300-plus career batting averages against Pelfrey.
