Randy Moss Trade Rumors: New England and Minnesota Talk Trade for Moss

Nick CaronOct 5, 2010

Jay Glazer of FOX is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings and the New England Patriots are discussing a trade that would send All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss to Minnesota.

The deal supposedly requires that the Vikings are able to work out the terms of a new contract for Moss, whose contract is up at the end of the 2010 season.

Moss began his career in Minnesota back in 1998 when he was a first-round pick. He quickly became a huge star, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and later working with quarterback Daunte Culpepper to create one of the most electric duos in the league.

Moss eventually fell out of favor with team management and was shipped to the Oakland Raiders for a first-round pick in 2005. After two seasons in Oakland, Moss was traded to the New England Patriots.

Moss caught 250 passes in his first three seasons with the Patriots, but has just nine catches through four games in 2010. Although three of those nine catches have been touchdowns, his 139 total yards have been a major disappointment in this young season.

After a Week 1 win over the Bengals, Moss was vocal in the postgame press conference, letting everyone know that he does not feel that he will be a Patriot after the 2010 season. At this point it looks like he might not even make it that long.

The Vikings were linked to trade rumors and were believed to have a deal in place for San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson earlier this season, but terms of the deal could not be reached. Reportedly, the sides could not come to an agreement on a new contract.

Although Moss is certainly a talent upgrade from Jackson, at 33-years-old, his contract requirements would surely be significantly less than Jackson's.

If the trade does happen, Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, and Moss will certainly be the most talked about trio in the NFL.
