Week 5 NFL Power Rankings 2010

Paul RaymondCorrespondent IOctober 5, 2010

Another week down in the current NFL season with plenty of upsets too boot. The upsets definitely caused some changes in the Week 5 NFL Power Rankings, while some didn’t cause much movement. Let’s just get into the rankings with some thoughts after.

1. Baltimore Ravens
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Indianapolis Colts
5. New York Jets
6. Atlanta Falcons
7. New England Patriots
8. Green Bay Packers
9. Houston Texans
10. Kansas City Chiefs

11. Chicago Bears
12. Washington Redskins
13. San Diego Chargers
14. Cincinnati Bengals
15. New York Giants
16. Miami Dolphins
17. Philadelphia Eagles
18. Tennessee Titans
19. Dallas Cowboys
20. Minnesota Vikings

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
22. St. Louis Rams
23. Seattle Seahawks
24. Denver Broncos
25. Arizona Cardinals
26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
27. Oakland Raiders
28. Detroit Lions
29. Cleveland Browns
30. San Francisco 49ers
31. Carolina Panthers
32. Buffalo Bills

The top spot has to go to the Ravens this week. I really think Pittsburgh is the best team in football, especially with Big Ben on his way back BUT with the Ravens winning this week they also take the top spot. This is almost a 1a and 1b type situation. One thing I can tell you by looking at the top ten is that the AFC is definitely the dominant conference right now.

Quick note on the Chiefs, last week I said that I would move them to the top spot once they are 4-0. They’re currently 3-0 after a bye week that’s why they’re still sitting at the #10 spot. Show and tell time comes Sunday against the Colts, a win and they get the pole position.

The Patriots moved back into my Top 10 and have a chance to keep moving up if they keep their current play up. The offense is absolutely lights out, while the defense and special teams have just been spectacular. In their three wins, they’ve averaged 39 points. They can put up points like no other and that makes them very dangerous if they find a way to beat the Jets.

The NFC East still dominates the middle of the rankings, they’re is just so much parity there with three teams tied for first at 2-2. What makes matters worse is the Eagles have lost Michael Vick for a few weeks so who knows if any team will separate themselves.

The team who made the biggest drop for me this week was the Chicago Bears, man did they drop a dud Sunday Night. They looked like the team most expected them too be, i.e. shit. The Giants defense went old school on them and neither the Bears offense or defense had an answer. Absolutely embarrassing, the big question is can they respond? If they lose next week against the Panthers then things could get out of control quickly in the Windy City.
