As the regular season comes to an end and the playoff teams begin to clinch their spots, many eyes are now being turned to the personal accolades. It appears as though the AL Cy Young is up for drabs in a three man race between Felix Hernandez and the two front runners CC Sabathia and David Price.

The Cy Young award goes to a true ace, a clutch performer, a pitcher that a manager can put on the mound when the team is slumping and get a strong outing out of to help break the team out of that slump. Something that goes a long with that is a winning record. The winner of this award is a pitcher who is an innings eater, getting over 200 innings with a sub 3.5 ERA. On top of all that a real Cy Young candidate needs to have at least 175 strike outs on the season.

What American league pitcher fits all of these qualities best? CC Sabathia of course. Felix is by far the head of the pack when it comes to innings, pitching nearly 250, 20 more then 2nd place CC. Felix also leads the pack in strike outs with 35 more then 2nd place Sabathia. Felix also leads the three aces in the ERA nearly a full run ahead of Sabathia. The only stat the Felix does not leas the big three in his the record, with a 13-12 season. Sabathia was 21-7, Price 19-6. But lets be honest now, if Felix had those numbers with A-Rod Teixeira, Cano, Jeter among others all in the same line up, or even Carlos Pena, Bj Upton and Crawl Crawford, he might have been a 21 game winner too. Maybe he would have even won more then that.

So then what puts CC ahead of him? The big win! When the Yankees lost 14 of their last 21 and had 5 games left in the year who goes out on the Mound to clinch the spot? CC! While yes Price did the same, his team was not on nearly of a bad skid as the Yankees were when CC clinched for the Yankees. What big win does Felix have? None! He was never given the chance in Seattle. It is the only thing holding him back from being the Cy Young Winner. Everything else Felix is by far the best in. Who knows, maybe Felix would be better in a big game. We just don't know. That would break it down to CC and Price. CC lead price in all categories this season. Give CC the Cy Young!
