NFL Scores Week 4: Michael Vick Injury Plus Other News

Brian DiTullioOct 3, 2010

While there were a lot of exciting things happening in Week 4 of the NFL, the top news over any scores or roundups will be Michael Vick's injury.

There were upsets, there were close games, and it was a good week of football in the NFL.

The Browns pulled off a victory while the Steelers suffered their first defeat. The Eagles/Redskins game, though, will be the talk of Sports Radio on Monday with the long list of injuries coming out of that game.

So let's dive in and see what happened on the gridiron in Week 4.

Jets 38, Bills 14

The Bills couldn't hang with the big boys two weeks in a row and the Jets cruised to an easy victory.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills offense was pretty anemic while the Jets seemed to score at will in the third quarter.

LaDanian Tomlinson added another 100-yard game to his resume and defied his over-30 age category.

The Bills, on the other hand, gained only 30 yards on their first four possessions, and were 0-10 on third downs.

Cleveland 23, Cincinnati 20

The Browns finally played a complete game and pulled a 23-20 victory out of the day, despite Terrell Owens catching everything thrown his way.

The Bengals didn't make as many mistakes as last week, but the Browns defense made enough plays to keep the Bengals in check.

The Browns offense, led by running back Peyton Hillis, rumbled all over the Bengals defensive line as Hillis had his second game with at least 100 yards.

Baltimore 17, Pittsburgh 14

Another thrilling game that came down to the last minute, as the Baltimore Ravens scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute remaining.

The Steelers come out of their Ben Roethlisberger-less season 3-1, and almost came out of it undefeated.

The Steelers are still a team to be reckoned with, and the Ravens are improving every week.

Denver 26 Titans 20

This was a game that was going to be close, and it was.

In a game ruled by good play on special teams, including a blunder by Tennessee at the end of the game that allowed Denver to recover the ball and run the clock out, Kyle Orton still had a banner day.

Orton threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns while Vince Young only managed 128 yards and one touchdown.

Even with Young's sub-par performance, the Titans almost pulled a victory out, but almost doesn't mean anything in the NFL.

Green Bay 28, Detroit 26

The question for this game should be: What's the bigger story?

Is it the Packers' holding off the Lions to move to 3-1, or is it the fact that the Lions staged a comeback and almost won the game?

Lions quarterback Shaun Hill threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns, but he did have two interceptions.

The Packers are 3-1, but they gave the game away against the Bears, and they almost let the Lions take one here.

Should be an interesting week in the Packers' training facility.

Atlanta 16 49ers 14

Alex Smith threw two interceptions and the 49ers blew a 14-point lead as the Falcons kicked a last-second field goal to take the victory.

There's a couple of thousand words to be written about why the 49ers failed, and what the heck happened to the Falcons to even allow them back into the game, but those words won't be written here.

Not the prettiest game of the week, that's for sure.

New Orleans 16, Carolina 14

NEW ORLEANS - OCTOBER 03: Drew Brees #9 of the New Orleans Saints talks with Jimmy Clausen #2 of the Carolina Panthers at the Louisiana Superdome on October 3, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints defeated the Panthers 16-14. (Photo by Chris Gray

Jimmy Clausen looked better, but the story of this game is the cracks that are appearing in the Saints' armor after the second straight week of almost losing to a statistically inferior team.

The Saints missed tackles, fumbled the ball, and just generally looked out of sync as Carolina mounted a much tougher challenge than most anyone could have predicted.

The Saints have been winning games they should win, but they haven't been winning them pretty. While a win is a win is a win in the NFL, that kind of luck can't last forever.

St. Louis 20, Seattle 3

The Rams pulled all the pieces together to completely dominate the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Sam Bradford threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns with only one interception and Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselback was sacked four times.

Steven Jackson had a good day, 70 yards on 22 carries despite a groin injury, and the Seahawks go home wondering what the heck happened.

Jacksonville 31, Indianapolis 28

This is not your older brother's Indianapolis Colts, who now have lost two games this year they would've won for the last eight years.

The Jaguars took advantage of a banged up Colts team and David Garrard was good enough to lead the Jags to a victory over the formerly untouchable Colts.

Peyton Manning still had a pretty good day, throwing for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns, but if the rest of the team doesn't contribute in full, there's only so much one man can do.

The Texans came out and won a game over the Raiders, a team that still hasn't found a way to win despite changing quarterbacks after Week 1.

The Raiders didn't have to rely on their kicker to win the game, but then again, they never got into a position to have to rely on the kicker to win the game.

The Texans continue their march toward the playoffs, and things are getting interesting.

San Diego 41, Arizona 10

GLENDALE, AZ - SEPTEMBER 02: Quarterback Max Hall #6 of the Arizona Cardinals scrambles for a 6 yard touchdown against the Washington Redskins during the third quarter of the preseason NFL game at the University of Phoenix Stadium on September 2, 2010 in

The Chargers crushed the Cardinals, which is to be expected since they insisted on starting Derek Anderson again, but that didn't even last a half as Anderson was benched in the second quarter.

The only question now is if Anderson's benching is permanent, or just another bump in the road for the inconsistent quarterback.

The only thing that can be said for sure at the moment is the Cardinals have a lot of problems.

What can you say about the Chargers? The defense had nine sacks and Phillip Rivers threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns.

Edge: Chargers Defense.

Washington 17, Eagles 12

In a game that may have an injury list with a table of contents, no injury made more of an impact on the game than Michael Vick's rib and chest injury.

While nothing more specific has been revealed as of this writing, Vick's injury completely changed the tempo of the game and the Redskins took advantage of it.

Kevin Kolb threw for 200 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but Donovan McNabb was unspectacular in a game that featured more hard hits than great catches.

The Redskins put one back in the win column but the Eagles have a lot more problems now.

Giants 17 Bears 3

The Bears offense allowed about 239 sacks, nine of which contributed to a Jay Cutler concussion at the end of the first half.

The Giants pass protection wasn't much better, but it was good enough for the Giants to hand the Bears their first loss of the 2010 campaign.

This was an ugly game, unless you like watching pass protection break down every 30 seconds and seeing the quarterback get hit out of his shoes  . . . then I guess you had a pretty good time Sunday ngiht.
