Philadelphia Eagles: Kevin Kolb's 5 Most Likely Trade Destinations

David DanielsSep 22, 2010

This past Tuesday, just after Andy Reid told the media that Kevin Kolb was Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback, he changed his mind and handed the reigns over to Michael Vick.

At the end of last season, if it was known the Eagles would only be keeping one of the three quarterbacks on their roster between Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb, or Vick, Vick would have been the least likely option to remain by far.

Nine months later and McNabb is a Redskin and Kolb has been benched.  After surviving countless trade rumors throughout the offseason, Vick is now under center for the Eagles.

Rumors of a Kevin Kolb trade have now surfaced.  Teams are understandably interested in the 26 year old pocket passer.

Here are the five most likely teams Kolb will end up with if he is dealt:

5. Seattle Seahawks

1 of 5

Why they would pull the trigger: Matt Hasselbeck is a shell of his former self; Charlie Whitehurst has played in two NFL contests in his five year career, and Kevin Kolb perfect for Pete Carroll's west-coast offense.

Why they would chicken out: They just traded a third round draft pick for Whitehurst.

Bottom line: Seattle is heading in the right direction as a rebuilding team, but they will hit a plateau without a starting caliber quarterback.

4. Cleveland Browns

2 of 5

Why they would pull the trigger: Jake Delhomme is obviously not a long term answer and Colt McCoy has zero experience in a pro-style offense.

Why they would chicken out: They spent a third round pick on McCoy and are paying Delhomme 7.5 million dollars a year.

Bottom line: A trade for Kolb may make the Browns quarterback situation a little crowded, but he is undoubtedly the most talented of the bunch.

3. Buffalo Bills

3 of 5

Why they would pull the trigger: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards are horrible.

Why they would chicken out: The Bills front office is horrible.

Bottom line:  They passed on Jimmie Clausen in the second round and proceeded to reach for a nose tackle.  Trading Marshawn Lynch for Kolb would be ideal, but the Bills front office may just believe Fitzpatrick is their guy (HA!).

2. San Francisco 49ers

4 of 5

Why they would pull the trigger: The 49ers are playoff bound unless they absolutely choke, and an actual quarterback to replace the mediocre Alex Smith could turn them into legit contenders.

Why they would chicken out: They have had chances to replace Smith in the past and have failed to do so.

Bottom line: The 49ers biggest weakness is probably the quarterback position.  Kolb fixes that.

1. Arizona Cardinals

5 of 5

Why they would pull the trigger: Larry Fitzgerald needs a quarterback better than Derek Anderson to get him the ball.

Why they would chicken out:  They have no reason not to trade for Kolb.

Bottom line: This is the ideal situation.  Go from Kurt Warner to Kevin Kolb, one era to the next without wasting time developing a draft pick.
