NFL Power Rankings Week 3

Sean E. DouglasSep 21, 2010

After the first two weeks of the season, we have seen projected Super Bowl teams like the Vikings, and Cowboys lose their first two games of the year. Last week I gave good teams the benefit of the doubt and held projected bad teams down a little.

One team that have jump up the rankings this week is the Redskins. Last week I took heat for having the Redskins as one of the top ten worst teams even though they beat the Cowboys. I wanted to see them show consistency and play the Texans tough week two.

That they did, and now they are a clear top fifteen team in the NFL on my rankings. This team still has to find a running game but at least Clinton Portis was able to pound in a couple touchdowns when they got to the goal line.

Week 3 NFL Power Rankings

1. Saints: The Saints probably shouldnโ€™t have beaten the 49ers on Monday night but San Francisco gave them the game with four turnovers. Good teams make smart decisions, and the Saints won by playing a clean professional game. That worked against a young San Francisco team but this week they need to play better against the Falcons.

2. Packers: This week is going to be the first inter division game for the Packers as they head to Chicago and play the Bears. The Bears are hot off a big win in Dallas and should give the Packers a close game. It will be up to Green Bayโ€™s pass rush to knock Jay Culter off his game.

3. Texans: Sure, this franchise hasnโ€™t been to the playoffs before, but it clearly looks like this is the season they will break through. At this time, they have the Coltsโ€™ number and are the favorite to win the AFC South early on. I would feel better about ranking them at this spot if they continue to improve in the secondary.

4. Colts: Week one was a bad start for the Coltsโ€™ defense, but they bounced back with a big game against the Giants. This team will always be challenged with slowing down the run game but their pass rush and pass defense look good. Expect the Colts to win many games as they are still one of the best teams in football.

5. Steelers: The Steelers havenโ€™t been pretty on offense, but they are going to get Ben Roethlisberger back in a couple of weeks. Coupling Big Ben with the Steelers new found dominating success on defense and this team will be a force all year.

6. Ravens: Joe Flacco is off to a rough start but this week he should get on the right path against the Browns. Once the Ravensโ€™ offense gets rolling this team is going to be tough to beat.

7. Jets: If Mark Sanchez can play the way he did last week this team is going to win the division over the Patriots. Itโ€™s all about consistency for Sanchez and the offense. Hopefully, they will get Darrelle Revis back soon.

8. Patriots: The Patriots have a great passing offense and a solid defense against the run, but they need help in the secondary. They also need a better running game as Fred Taylor probably wonโ€™t stay healthy all year. The loss of Kevin Faulk will hurt this offense, but they can overcome it.

9. Bengals: Give me consistency as a team and I will like the Bengals more than right now. Their offense has only produced touchdowns when the team was down by multiple scores to the Patriots. If they canโ€™t find a way to score early in games, they will let average teams find a way to beat them.

10. Dolphins: Miami won a big game on the road against the Vikings, but they need to continue that success against the Jets this weekend. Since the Dolphins have a way of giving the Jetsโ€™ problems it could easily be the Dolphins on top of this division by two games over the Jets by Sunday night.
