NFL Week 2 Bleacher Report Awards: Mark Sanchez Gets Redemption
Another week of football in the books, another round of awards to hand out.
There were some tough games played Sunday, and no game had a more surprising outcome than the New York Jets upsetting the New England Patriots.
There's an award there, but there are plenty of other areas to highlight.
So let's quit dancing and get to the awards.
Player of the Week: Matt Schaub
1 of 10
Matt Schaub's 497 yards passing is something that can't be overlooked. Going 38-of-52 with three touchdowns and one pick, Schaub helped the Texans advance to a 2-0 start.
That's a dominating performance, and that gets you Player of the Week.
Bonehead Move of the Week: Brandon Jacobs
2 of 10
When you accidentally toss your helmet into the stands, that gets you the Bonehead Move of the Week Award.
New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, frustrated over poor play, tried to toss his helmet to the ground, but things went horribly awry and off went the helmet into the stands.
No one was hurt and NFL Security retreived the wayward helmet.
Catch of the Week: Randy Moss
3 of 10
Randy Moss' one-handed catch for a touchdown while beating Darrelle Revis was one heck of a play.
When you have two superstars at the top of their game, that's always going to win an award on one side or the other.
Interception of the Week: Vontae Davis
4 of 10
Vontae Davis' interception on the goal line after the ball bounced off about 30 people, off a couple of fans, and off the cat's nose was pretty entertaining.
A highlight like that always deserves an award, and congratulations to Davis for being the last guy to touch the ball.
Manning of The Week Award: Archie Manning
5 of 10
While the ground game was a huge factor in the Colts win, you have to have a winner in the Manning of the Week sweepstakes.
Peyton had the better day, so Peyton should win Manning of the Week.
But Archie Manning had to suffer through watching his sons play each other, knowing one of them was going to be on the losing end.
So Archie Manning wins Manning of the Week.
Did Not See That Coming Award: Pittsburgh Steelers
6 of 10
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a lot of questions that needed to be answered coming into the 2010 season.
Most of those were on offense, but even the defense had a few questionable areas as the preseason progressed.
Well, all of those questions now are answered and the Steelers completely shut down Chris Johnson and the Titans on Sunday.
I did not see that coming.
The Steelers are for real, and are going to be three times as dangerous once Ben Roethlisberger returns.
Should Have Come To Training Camp Award: Brett Favre
7 of 10
Brett Favre should have come to training camp.
In fact, Brett Favre may have just thrown another interception. We just don't know for sure, but anything is possible.
Maybe he'll be ready by next week.
Money Where Your Mouth Is Award: New York Jets
8 of 10
The Jets under Head Coach Rex Ryan do a lot of talking.
Well, they backed up all their talk by playing a dominating game vs. the New England Patriots.
Mark Sanchez probably will be made Mayor of New York by the media this week, but that's to be expected. I wouldn't count on it lasting.
Jerry Jones Heartburn Award: Jerry Jones
9 of 10
The Cowboys are 0-2 and Emmitt Smith is not coming out of the locker room next week.
Somebody get Jerry Jones some Tums.
Quarterback Controversy Award: TIE Between Eagles and Raiders
10 of 10
Michael Vick led the Eagles to victory over a rapidly improving Lions team, while Jason Campbell was benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski in Oakland.
Welcome to Quarterback Controversy Island!
Honorable Mentions should go out to Arizona for benching Derek Anderson in favor of rookie Max Hall in the fourth quarter, and the Cleveland Browns because what else is new in Cleveland?
