Last week, we saw some surprising performances from typically low scoring fantasy football kickers. Carolina Panthers kicker John Kasay put up 13 fantasy football points against the New York Giants.

However, there were also some disappointing performances from kickers predicted to have great games. Garrett Hartley missed two field goals and accumulated a whopping zero fantasy points against the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s tough to predict a kicker’s offensive output sometimes, but more often than not there is enough evidence to make a fairly accurate projection.

Here are the kicker rankings for Week 2.

1. David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Detroit

Akers had a solid game in the Eagles' season opener against the Green Bay Packers.  He kicked two field goals and two extra points, finishing with nine points overall.  Akers is as consistent and accurate a kicker as they come and has a favorable matchup against the Detroit Lions this week.

Look for Philadelphia to have no problem moving the football against the Lions and for Akers to put together a double-digit points outing for the first time on the young season.

Point Projection: 12 points

2. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) vs. Buffalo

Crosby showed off a strong leg when the Packers beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener.  Crosby connected on two kicks over 40 yards, which included a 56-yard field goal and three extra points, good enough for 12 fantasy football points.  The Packers' dynamic offense (27 points in Week 1 against the Eagles) will no doubt give Crosby plenty of chances to score points this season.

This is especially true against the offensively challenged Buffalo Bills team who will have a hard time dealing with the Packers on the road. Look for Green Bay to have excellent field position throughout the game and for Crosby to make it two straight weeks with 10-plus fantasy points.

Point Projection: 11 points

3. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) @ New York Jets

Gostkowski had a case of the “shanks” in the Patriots season debut against the Bengals.  He hit 1-of-3 field goals and five extra points, finishing with six points overall.  The Patriots proved Week 1 that they are still one of the best offenses in the league and should give Gostkowski multiple chances to score in the coming weeks.

The Patriots face an excellent Jets defense Week 2 on the road, but the Patriots had no trouble putting up points in bunches against a good Cincinnati defense.  Gostkowski should be a top-five fantasy option going forward until proven otherwise.

Point Projection: 10 points
