Week 2 NFL Predictions: A Sibling Rivalry Renewed
Week one of the 2010 NFL season is in the books and it was an interesting week. Already there is a quarterback controversy in Philly and the debate will get even bigger if Michael Vick has a good week.
This week also features a sibling rivalry between the Manning brothers. The Colts will be hungry for a victory after getting blown out in Houston, while the Giants got a nice win against the Panthers.
Here are my week two predictions.
Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions
1 of 16
Something tells me a quarterback controversy isn't what the Eagles had in mind when they shipped away Donovan McNabb to the Redskins. However, just one week into the season, and with Michael Vick starting in place for the concussed Kevin Kolb, the controversy could blow up.
For Michael Vick, this is his chance to show he is a starting quarterback in the NFL again. Last week he was impressive and nearly brought the Eagles back from their deficit against the Packers.
On the other hand, the Lions had a heartbreaking loss in Chicago on a controversial call late. The news got worse after they found out Matthew Stafford separated his shoulder. Now the Lions have turned to Shaun Hill to be their quarterback.
I like the Eagles to win this game and for Vick to have a good day, further stirring the controversy. How does it feel to be Kevin Kolb right now?
Fearless Forecast: Eagles 24, Lions 13
Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers
2 of 16
If you're in a survival football pool and you want a safe pick the Packers are as safe as they come. With the Bills not being able to generate any offense and the Packers offense among the leagues best, this game has potential to get ugly.
With Ryan Grant lost for the year to an ankle injury, Brandon Jackson steps in and should get off to a good start this week against the Bills.
Barring a miracle, I really don't see how the Bills win this game. Watching Trent Edwards last week, he was afraid to throw it down the field and take chances, and if that doesn't change, not only will the Bills lose this game, but a quarterback change will surely happen.
Fearless Forecast: Packers 41, Bills 17
Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings
3 of 16
Last week you could tell Brett Favre had not been at training camp, as he looked out of sync with his receivers. It appeared that he will miss Sidney Rice bad. I expect the Vikings to bounce back in week two though.
While the Dolphins won their first game, it was not impressive in the least bit. Their defense looked good, but how much can you judge their defense against the Bills offense? The offense couldn't ever get fully clicking, but they did enough to win. A similar performance this week in Minnesota and the Dolphins won't be so lucky to escape with a victory.
Fearless Forecast: Vikings 27, Dolphins 17
Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns
4 of 16
There was no stadium that was more alive than Arrowhead in week one. The home crowd was huge for the Chiefs and they were able to hang on for a 21-14 victory over the Chargers.
The defense was impressive, as were Jamaal Charles and Dexter McCluster. However, Matt Cassel must improve, as he threw for just 68 yards.
The Chiefs have a great chance to start the season 2-0 as they play a Browns team that let a win-able game against the Buccaneers slip way and will likely be without Jake Delhomme for this game.
This isn't the most appealing game to say the least, and either team can win it. I'm interested to see how the Chiefs respond to their big win last week and if they will struggle on the road.
Fearless Forecast: Chiefs 24, Browns 16
Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys
5 of 16
Before you jump the gun and say the Cowboys are overrated, just remember it's only the first week and teams will get better as the season goes on.
That being said, the Cowboys offense struggled last week, to say the least. They made mistake after mistake and it ended up costing them the game. Alex Barron is not the most popular player in Dallas right now.
The Bears were able to escape last week against the Lions and won't be so fortunate this week. Yes they won, but it was ugly. Mike Martz' presence was felt though, and it looks like the Bears will be passing a lot this year. Matt Forte is going to be used much more in the passing game.
I like the Cowboys to win this one. Their offense will show up this week. If they lose this week though, yeah, Cowboys fans you can start to worry a little bit.
Fearless Forecast: Cowboys 31, Bears 16
Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons
6 of 16
In the Falcons opening game, they could never get their offense going and lost in overtime to the Steelers. It's always tough to win in Pittsburgh, regardless if Big Ben is playing or not. Now the Falcons look to bounce back.
Michael Turner rushed for just 42 yards on 19 carries last week, while Roddy White shredded the Steelers defense for 13 catches and 111 yards.
The Cardinals struggled in their opener, but came away with the win over the Rams. While Anderson wasn't very accurate, he had no turnovers and did enough to win. The winning ways won't continue this week though.
The Falcons will win it.
Fearless Forecast: Falcons 20, Cardinals 9
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 16
While the Bengals struggled in week one, the only positive was that they showed some life in the second half. Now it's week two and time to open up division play in the AFC North where the Bengals were unbeatable in 2009.
The Ravens would like to end that streak though. They are coming off of an ugly win against the Jets in which the defense was dominant. Ray Lewis seemed to deliver every single hit in that game. For the second week in a row for the Ravens this game will be extremely physical.
It always is in the AFC North.
Fearless Forecast: Bengals 17, Ravens 14
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans
8 of 16
Chris Johnson didn't miss a beat in the Titans opener, rushing for 142 yards while scoring two touchdowns. In fact, the entire offense looked impressive. Now they'll see a physical Steelers defense.
Meanwhile, the Steelers got a huge win to start the season off and a win this week would be even better. The countdown for Ben Roethlisberger's return is now three games. But the Steelers players aren't thinking of that, they are focused on the Titans.
As much as I like Dennis Dixon, I don't see the Steelers winning this one. The Titans looked great and it'll be interesting to see how Dixon responds on the road.
Fearless Forecast: Titans 20, Steelers 13
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
9 of 16
Matt Moore was horrible in the Panthers first week, going 14-33, throwing three interceptions, and fumbling twice, losing one of them. Yeah, I'd call that a pretty bad start to the season. His decision making was terrible and we can now officially put the Jimmy Clausen watch in full throttle.
Josh Freeman and the Bucs got a much needed win in their first game and Freeman looked good. It would be an even bigger win this week if they can open up NFC south play on a high note.
The Panthers will win this one and Matt Moore will do enough to put the Jimmy Clausen watch on hold, at least for this week.
Fearless Forecast: Panthers 24, Buccaneers 7
Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
10 of 16
Last week the Seahawks were one of week one's surprises when they dominated the 49ers 31-6. They looked like the Seahawks of old and Pete Carroll looked like a genius. Can they continue it in Denver?
In a game that really could have gone either way, the Broncos lost to the Jaguars and Tim Tebow did not have the effect Broncos fans hoped. Now it's the Broncos home opener and I have a feeling Tebow will be used more this week.
I'm not sold on the Seahawks yet and I'm going to go with the Broncos in this one. Kyle Orton will have a nice game.
Fearless Forecast: Broncos 24, Seahawks 23
St.Louis Rams at Oakland Raiders
11 of 16
What game would you rather watch Sunday, Chiefs-Browns, or Rams-Raiders? Personally, I'd have to pick the second option, simply to see Sam Bradford and what he can do. Anyway, enough about that.
Is this finally Darren McFadden's time? After an impressive week one in which McFadden rushed for 95 yards and caught six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown, Run DMC will start again in week two. And in week two he faces a worse defense.
Jason Campbell will regroup after a rough start to his tenure as a Raider and the Raiders will win their first game of the year.
Fearless Forecast: Raiders 23, Rams 14
Houston Texans at Washington Redskins
12 of 16
The Donovan McNabb era got off to a good start for the Redskins, as they won an ugly game against the Cowboys. The Redskins can't blink though because the Texans are in town and they're flying high after their convincing win over the Colts.
How good must the Texans be feeling now? Before last week the Texans had only beaten the Colts once in their franchise history and they just opened the season in great fashion. If you didn't know about Arian Foster before you do know.
As much as I like the Texans, I think they will lose this game. This will be one of the best games of week two and will go down to the end. Donovan McNabb will get it going this week and improve the 'Skins to 2-0.
Fearless Forecast: Redskins 27, Texans 24
New England Patriots at New York Jets
13 of 16
Not many people are giving the Jets a chance in this one and if you watched them last week, you know why. Also if you watched how good the Patriots look, you know why. Tom Brady and Wes Welker looked perfect, and the Patriots couldn't have asked for a better start to the season.
The Jets though? That is not what they had in mind to start the year. The defense was great as usual, but the offense couldn't do anything. Mark Sanchez needs to step up this week, or else the Jets will fall to 0-2. The whole night was just a mess on offense.
The Jets were considered the favorites for the AFC East coming into the season. People were forgetting about the Patriots, but they're still there. They will set the tone for the division here.
Fearless Forecast: Patriots 20, Jets 10
Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers
14 of 16
David Garrard was spot on in week one, only missing on five passes while throwing three touchdowns. That's the quarterback the Jaguars thought they were getting when they named him the starter.
Last week the Chargers weren't able to win in rowdy Kansas City, as the offense never got into a rhythm. What they did find though was a good receiver in Legedu Naanee. The word on Vincent Jackson? Not anytime soon.
San Diego will bounce back.
Fearless Forecast: Chargers 30, Jaguars 20
New York Giants at Indianapolis Colts
15 of 16
For the second time in their careers, the Manning's will square off against each other in a sibling rivalry. The first meeting Peyton got the best of his younger brother.
I hope the Giants watched tape of the Colts game last week and realized how to beat them. The winning formula appeared to be run, run, run. With Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw, the Giants can run it down their throats.
Meanwhile, I find it hard to believe the Colts will start the season 0-2. Peyton just won't let it happen, especially against his little brother.
Fearless Forecast: Colts 27, Giants 23
New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers
16 of 16
Last week was not the start the 49ers had in mind, as they got rocked 31-6 in Seattle. They needed to set the tone in the NFC West, but instead left it wide open.
On the other hand, the Saints started right where they left off in 2009: winning. Like most games in week one, it wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.
The energy will be there in San Francisco and the 49ers will play considerably better than last week
This game will be closer than people think.
Fearless Forecast: Saints 23, 49ers 20
