QB Kevin Kolb started Week 1, but went out later in the game with a concussion and still hasn’t been ruled out for Week 2. This gave Michael Vick the opportunity to shake off some rust and show what he could do; the former VTECH Hokie didn’t disappoint. He threw for 175 yards through the air including a TD pass, and also ran for 103 yards helping RB LeSean McCoy pace the ground game. McCoy only rushed for 35 yards but did score a TD to go along with five receptions for 47 yards. Jeremy Maclin caught Vick’s only TD pass. The Philly’s defense was solid out of the gates pressuring QB Aaron Rodgers with two INT’s and three sacks.
The Lions should be 1-0 coming home after they were a victim of “Highway Robbery” in Week 1 in Chicago. QB Matthew Stafford was off to a good start going 11-of-15 for 83 yards before he was sacked and ended up separating his shoulder. QB Shaun Hill took over for the remainder of the game completing 9-of-19 for 88 yards and an INT. Rookie RB Jahvid Best ran for two scores in his NFL debut, while WR’s Calvin Johnson and Tony Scheffler combined for 10 catches and 88 yards. Johnson had what would have been the game winning TD catch taken off the board in very controversial fashion with under a minute left in the fourth.
The Eagles have done their betting backers proud when installed a favorite cashing tickets 19 of the L/26 times since 2008. When favored by 3.5 to 9.5 points the L/2 years, they are 11-2 SU & 9-5 against the closing odds. At home since 2008, the Lions have been very poor in the role of the underdog winning outright only one time in their L/30 tries while posting a 12-16 ATS tally during that stretch. As a host, Detroit stands 2-14 SU & 4-12 ATS the L/2 seasons.
